Week ending January 13, 2007 (Vol 4, #2) Welcome to the Skeptic Summary, a quick week-in-review guide to the Skeptic Friends Network and the rest of the skeptical world.
Forum Highlights:Pachelbel - Great for weddings!
That ‘One God’ thingy, them Jewish folk & more - Did we miss his point, or did he miss ours?
Editor’s Choice: I’m skeptical about Skeptic Friends - Except that really, you’re just whining. Kil’s Evil Pick:Science News Online - I know that many of you are familiar with this site. I’m making it my pick for the week to promote the site, for those of you who don’t check it regularly. Chat Highlights:Sunday: beskeptigal’s paper for TAM5; Bad Astronomer speak to skeptics in Seattle; lysdexia; Wikipedia article edits; buns-and-puns; Christmas presents; a Swedish movie classic Göta Kanal gets a follow-up; the Sun just passed minimum. Also: some Guild Wars.
Wednesday: Chat opened with Star Wars and South Park. The two are in fact unrelated, but seemed to fit nicely together anyways. It was announced that Trey Parker and Matt Stone will be attending TAM5. George Lucas will not. Kilbonics lead into Dr. Mabuse telling a story about voice recognition software, which then brought on the distinction of the three major languages: English, American, and Californian. A few new faces showed up to chat, as well as many identical ones. After a short discussion on some current threads, a comment about recharging batteries lead chat straight into, what else but, electricity puns. This, as always, scared most people away and ended chat.

Got some skeptic news items? Send them to us, and we’ll think about adding them. Book of the Week:Darwin’s Dangerous Idea: Evolution and the Meanings of Life, by Daniel C. Dennett.
“One of the best descriptions of the nature and implications of Darwinian evolution ever written, it is firmly based in biological information and appropriately extrapolated to possible applications to engineering and cultural evolution. Dennett’s analyses of the objections to evolutionary theory are unsurpassed. Extremely lucid, wonderfully written, and scientifically and philosophically impeccable…”
