quote: FBI Seeks Pipe-Bomb Suspect in Lubbock. The FBI in Lubbock issued an all-points bulletin about 10:15 a.m. today for a pipe-bombing suspect believed to be in the Lubbock or Brownfield areas.
The suspect named in a Department of Public Safety radio transmission is Luke John Helder, 22, who reportedly is driving a gray, 1992, four-door Honda Accord with Minnesota license plate number EZL 783.
Helder is described as armed and dangerous. He is white, 5 foot 9 inches, 150 pounds with brown hair and green eyes.
A pipe bomb was found near Amarillo earlier this morning, and it appears to be from the same source as 17 others found in the Midwest and Colorado, the FBI said today.

Well now the idiot's been caught. The show can begin. In the next few weeks, we'll all be treated to heart-rending stories about distraught/mentally unbalanced he's been for the last days/weeks/months/years/whatever. This kid was a 21-year old college student. His mom says he's been upset because no one listenes to his opinions. I was a 21 year old college student once. No one listened to my opinions either. (Unless it was "In my opinion, we are getting very low on beer/drug du jour, and need to restock) Okay, so he doesn't like our government. Big deal. I'll let him in on a little secret: no one likes their government. The heads of governments don't like the government most of the time. But we want roads, schools, mail delivery, a military to guard our borders, and a chance to hit the mall without being mugged. We'll put up with the whinefest in DC to get the stuff we want. This kid supposedly wants to change the way people think about our government. Um okay. So he causes shrapnel wounds some 70-year old lady. Funny, that didn't change my way of thinking at all. Lisa

It's my fault, overbearing elitist brute that I am. He looks to be about 3 shades whiter than I am, but I'm sure his lawyers will cobble up some kind of victimhood for him. I'm all in favor of imprisoning pearly white middle-class slacker dolts every time they spit on the sidewalk or cut me off in traffic. Teach 'em a lesson. (I'm still laying off the fire-water, btw, it's an invention of the devil and much less useful than his other inventions, gunpowder and steel.)

Regarding opinions: by definition, to opine is merely to assert. An opinion is just that: An unsubstantiated assertion, and thus, we see the fallacy in the demand that we respect all opinions. (I used to tell my critical thinking students that an opinion and 79 cents will buy you a cup of coffee).
I remember that when I was this kid's age, I was full of opinions, and could not understand why nobody else gave them any credence. In retrospect, I understand why: my thinking was largely muddled, badly stated, shrill voiced crap. As my critical acumen developed, I was able to separate the wheat from the chaff and forge a more cogent and defensible point of view (of course, this is always a work in progress).
In short, the fact that one thinks that they have something to say, however, does not automatically entitle them to an audience.

Piltdown, I agree with you. The lawyers will find some "victimhood" ploy.
This guy, however, is in college. One would assume he has some intelligence, and I (just me, maybe not society) would extrapolate that he would wish to overcome any victimhood that might hold him back.
I admit that this is an altruistic perspective.
As for middle class slacker-dolts, and upper class slacker-dolts, what they all need is some time on the end of a shovel, end of a hammer, or moving heavy things from here to there while an asshole like myself tells them how/when/where and if they're lucky why to do it, in very loud tones.
If you think it's work, you're doing it wrong. |
