You may or may not have noticed some problems with SFN over the last few days. I am going to try and remedy these problems this weekend and that is going to mean closing SFN for several hours. I am shooting for the wee hours Saturday night to Sunday morning so if you see a message that SFN is down for maintenance please remain calm and check back at a later hour.
What i am going to do is ditch this Access 2000 database and put it all in SQL 2000. Not only should any problems disappear but everyone should see some significant performance improvements. There are bound to be a few glitches along the way so please be patient while I sort it all out.

Can we wait that long? I'm having difficulty accessing some of the topics.

I found what might be a workaround. Do you notice the little +/- next to forums? Minimize the ones that you figure you don't want to see or are least likely to have a post/response. That allowed me to view the main page at least. Another option is for me to go and delete some old posts.
It's going to be a quite a job to move this to SQL 2000 but I will start on it tonight and who knows, may get it all done quicker than this weekend. I will do my best.

Another work around is just to keep coming back to the topic/post and keep trying, eventually it works. Understand about the data move. Luck, and speed.

Atomic:
There should be no problem. Some of us should try to make our own site and find out how difficult it is to get everything working all of the time. Most of us, however, are much, much too lazy. So, while this site is down, the gripers can set up their own site and see how it goes... Lots of luck!

LOL, I hope the fire department never tries that
SFN is not "down" right now. It's just not functioning the way I would hope it would. I think part of this upgrade process will involve trimming a few topics here and there. Not many, mind you, and definately none with any good content.
You have to try and imagine SFN 10 years from now and how these topics add up. Eventually there would be more than anyone could read in a lifetime.

trust me, it's not all fine. It sorta works if you keep at it and works half way decent if you use the +/- signs on the left side of each forum to minimize ones like the Web Related etc.

How has the performance been for everyone? I haven't had any problems at all recently. The problem appears, at least to me, to have been a server related issue rather than a database issue. Our database isn't really all that big yet. We have under 100,000 records and Access should be able to handle a few million. So I am going to put off the upgrade of the database until the new Snitz version is released unless some of you are having problems.
