I guess that's not very exciting to most, but for me- well, even though I spent many hours of dedicated stargazing as a kid, I had never, ever seen one before.

I just spent a week's vacation in Gold Hill NV, on the old Comstock Lode, staying in a hotel that was built in 1859.

My first night there, I stepped out on my balcony for a smoke- and was transfixed by the sight of the stars. The seeing in a rural area at 6200 feet was just amazing- the more so after a few years of living in Studio City, where you're lucky to see three stars and the moon.

It's been a long time since I had a sky map in my head, but I still instantly recognized Scorpius and Sagittarius, and as I sat there trying to remember more... VOOP!

Some little piece of space debris had been kind enough to hit the atmosphere and burn up while I was looking.

Neat! It more than made up for the reputed ghost in my room being off-duty that week.

Heck, Italians can't see ghosts anyway, so I'll settle for lots of stars.

Ford, there's an infinite number of monkeys outside who want to talk to us about this script for Hamlet they've worked out.

Wonderful!

I've seen many, mostly on the mid watch at sea. It is a truly dazzling sight.

Evolution is a bankrupt speculative philosophy, not a scientific fact. Only a spiritually bankrupt society could ever believe it.... Only atheists could accept this Satanic theory.

I can remember sitting outside in the middle of winter watching a meteor shower when I was a kid. Of course, back then I lived out the country, and in the winter, the stars were spectacular (worth freezing your butt off to see). That's one thing I miss now that I live in an urban area with a lot of light pollution. Oh well.

Just think. That meteor waited 4 and 1/2 billion years to crash into the Earth just to distract you from your cancer stick. You should take it as a sign.

Congrats, Ktesibios! Keep watching. If you're lucky, you may see one explode. Now THAT's cool!

If you think it's work, you're doing it wrong.
