The idea - "Enjoy Your Freedom? Thank a Veteran!" is a bumper sticker sentiment that no one here agrees with? Things are a little more complex than that, yes.

"Not one human life should be expended in this reckless violence called a war against terrorism." - Howard Zinn

By what I say I mean NO disrespect to vetrans, but
almost all the military operations between 1946 and 1988 were anti-communism. Oh, those "evils" that america wanted wiped off the face of the planet. Even though in Vietnam the people would probabaly been better off living under a communist regime than under a US supported puppet government made up of the rich people that didn't want communism. It has been confirmed that the same villages the US helped during the day were subsequently bombed at night, because of suspected enemy activity.

The United States armed forces, on the other hand have done alot for the UN humanitarian operations, and should continue supporting UN activities because they are Privilaged. You wouldn't expect some small country doing the same work as the US just to befair. The UN was created on the basis that all members were created equal, and the most war equipped would have permenant seats on the security counsil.
You have that, help the less fortunate, and quit complaining.

Uh oh, I'm ranting again...
