Don't miss the repeat of this week's South Park where John Edwards wins the Galaxies Biggest Douche Bag award for holding back mankind from letting go of fantasies instead of searching for the truth.
It was a great episode for skeptics and cold reading was explained very well and in painful detail. They really took it to Edwards.

The very biggest douchbag? Really? Wow!
Surely, there must be bigger douchbags in the galaxy than Edward. After all, he's nothing but a mere grifter, and not a very interesting one at that. Hmph. Who'a thunk?
Actually, I think the name of the award should be changed. After all, a douchbag has a practical application, where as Edward might be useful only as crab bait.

Well, we didn't get it here. We got the one where Butters gets pissed at the Simpsons and Cartman makes sea people. And the second one was the one where Butters goes on the Maury Povich show.
I felt cheated. |

I finally saw the John Edward's is a douche episode last night. Really good stuff. It was one of the best lessons in critical thinking I have ever seen. The episode managed to show how cold readings are done. There was a great speach about why people are willing to suspend rational thought. I have watched Shermer's show and CSICOP's continuing show's and have never seen as thorough a debunking as this one. Plus, it was very funny.... |

Kil, are you saying that you actually get sceptical shows on TV. If so could you (or anyone else) provide me with some info (proucers, networks, writers presenters etc) to enable me to purchase them. We get none of that over here, we did have a Randi debunking homeopathetic show recently. That's it though. Everything else is so heavily biased toward the ridiculous. |
