Better hope this turns out to be some kind of hoax:

German Satanists 'ate babies'
From Roger Boyes in Berlin
BABIES have been killed, sliced up and eaten by a German Satanist group, according to media reports yesterday, stirring fears that last month's arrest of a self-confessed cannibal was not an isolated incident.

The prosecutor's office in Trier, near the border with Luxembourg, said that it had been investigating alleged cases of cannibalism and rape by Satanists since the middle of last year. That is six months before another case of cannibalism — the eating of a software designer by a former soldier — came to light.

Police stumbled on the Satanist group when a 34-year-old woman gave evidence about a network whose members ate babies and raped women as part of an initiation rite.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

I think a bit of skepticism is called for when looking at such news articles. There is no trend or connection between these new alledged occurences and the canibalism incident that was in the news a few month ago.

The later was a case of consensual canibalism, that was closer to assisted suicide then anything else. I am not even sure that this should actually be considered a crime.

Those new allegation describe rings of satanists ritualistic killing and sometimes eating there victims over a period of decades. The only evidence that this actually happened to the extend they claim is the account of a 34 year old woman. To further muddle the waters many experts have come forward to tell us horror stories. Reporters have stopped brothering to distinguish between satanism, occultism and paganism. Internet pornography has found its way into the discussion. And the curchs expert on sects and cults is saying, that we should pay more attention, if someone makes unbelievable allegations about religious minorities.

I hope that someone can sort out the actual evidence before some sort of witch-hunt breaks out. At the moment Everything that prevents us from that is the journalistic integrity of the media, the objectivity of the christian experts and the speed of the german police bureaucracy.

... Maybe I should move ...

Did I miss something more? (Except for this ONE "specialist")

and the speed of the german police bureaucracy

Okay, I missed everything that happened at this side of the atlantic at all, I guess.

This sounds like something that would come from the Weekly World News site. Did anyone check, maybe these guys just copied the story from WWN?
It just sounds so tabloidesque.

Actually it's reminescient of the 'Satanic Panic' the U.S.A. and Canada dealt with in the '80's and'90's. See http://www.religioustolerance.org/sra_intro.htmfor more details.
The article is so vague as to be useless, but it's possible they are referring to the Ruda case, see http://www.religioustolerance.org/news_02jan.htm#sat.

No, they are referring rto a case that the german police really currently deals with. It is just not clear if this is true at all, but police is actually dealing with it.
