The war in Iraq is just about over and it will be interesting to see developments there in the near future. Reading the papers, Washington seems to have cut back on the rhetoric against Syria, but I was wondering whether anyone thinks they are going to make a go of it or not????

They have quite a few eggs in their basket (Happy Easter all by the way, no pun intended) in Iraq, could they handle Syria and maybe Iran as well?

There would be even less international support for an attack, but do they give a stuff?

What effect would this have on the anti US feelings in the Middle East?

Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

My personal gut feeling is that the Bush administration (I hate to say "the US", since that would include me and I don't feel at all connected to the current administration's decision-making process) will not attack Syria. I don't think even the hawks can overlook the disastrous consequences of such a unilateral action.

However, I do think that the Bush people intend to spend the capital they've gained by their quick victory in Iraq. This means waving the big stick (yes, I do mean that in the Freudian sense) at Syria, Iran, and North Korea, among others.

There are also still a lot of rumblings in Central and South America. There is talk that the CIA was involved in the attempted coup in Venezuela, and that doesn't seem to be over. Also, there is a lot of noise about the U.S. being involved in "regime change" in Haiti. I'm not saying any of it is true or false, I'm just saying there is a lot of talk.

Some place in Southwest Asia or that general area may well be next, but I wonder where Cuba is on the list. It's even more harmless and helpless than Iraq was so it must be high on the list.

Here's an article, Hawking Syria, from TomPaine.com, that might shed some light on U.S. intentions.
