The difference here, I think, is that in the '70's the media as a whole may have had a bias, but it also had an ethical code to pursue truth, and a balanced story. This may be what the right hates most about the left.

It's funny how Israel gained the support of the conservative Christians. Once, most fundies I knew considered Jews "Christ killers," (shows my age?). Today, the fundamentalists, Charismatics, Pentacostals and Reconstructionists see the expansion of Israel, and the return of all Jews as prophesy fulfillment--One step closer to the return of the Messiah.

Do ya think Monica realizes that she performed the most expensive BJ in the history of the nation? How many tax dollars did Ken Starr spend investigating a crime that isn't a crime? Then they had the gall to say that it's about the lie, when the lie never would have happened if it weren't for the investigation and subsequent 'leaks'. Now, this president lies about everything from his arrest record to reasons for war, and our 'liberal' press treats him like a hero....
I'm so confused...

I'm sure you've heard of "Manifest Destiny", Atomic. I'm afraid those of us abroad who follow American politics see a nation that "believes in its own rightness" to an extent that is dangerous when coupled with the economic and military might it wields.
To an extent, I think it's an historical accident. The US has never had to be part of an uneasy co-allition of often warring nations as we have been here in Europe. It has never, like Britain "lost" (or given away) an Empire. It has never had occasion or cause to learn the complicated diplomatic dance that under-pins politics from Ireland to the Far East. Frankly, US foreign policy is a reflection of this. It is simplistic, arrogant, ignorant and unsubtle to an extraordinary degree.
Of course that's not to say many Americans are like that at all. But your government undoubtedly is. |

I am most certainly in favour of an impeachment...we should all send rather nasty little letters to the White House, perhaps fill some envelopes with flour and seal them with a kiss. As far as being an American in this day and age? Bollucks! I feel sorry for all the Americans who are being manipulated and oppressed by the Bush administration. I read yesterday an article in the Toronto Star about some seven hundred and eighty visible minorities who were 'treated inhumanely' in 'post 9/11' USA. It's rather shocking to stand aside from it all and marvel at the splendour of Bush's veil of deceit placed over the eyes of so many Americans. And to think that he will undoubtedly be 'elected' again. It seems rather pointless to cast your ballots, he will somehow come into power again regardless. I only hope that the American people stand up for their rights, and redeeem themselves in the international community by demanding that Bush and his neo-nazi regime be removed from power. |
Toronto is the capital of Canada, and I live in a giant igloo. Blubber anyone? |

Actually, those people were mostly illegal immigrants of Arab desent. However, that does not free the administration of responsibilty. Unfortunately, our Attorney General, John Ashcroft, does not veiw non-citizens as protected by our Constitution. I think the implications are obvious.
Anyway, here's a link to the New York Times article. That is if you can trust the plagarizing, liberal, socialist Times! http://www.nytimes.com/2003/06/03/politics/03DETA.html?pagewanted=print&position=
