Will any God or God(s) suffice?
Sure, why not? Human history is rife with all-powerful (more or less), mythical beings. I have no doubt that our pre-history is virtually polluted with them, as well. And the lives of some individuals and organizations are/were fuller and richer because of it. Others have not been so fortunate, whatever their beliefs.
Gods and demons, saints and sinners. Priests and holy thieves of all stripes have lived well off the myths. And how many great leaders have we seen that don't at least pay lip-service to some modern deity or other? There've been a few -- Stalin comes to mind -- but not many.
We have always loved a good story and never cared much about it's origins or accuracy. As we are told ad nauseum; "Faith is all you need." So it has always been to the advantage of an individual, at least within his/her community, to be a 'believer' in the local mumbo & jumbo.
Hmph. Just remembered: Stalin himself was a failed divinity student. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he completed 4 years of a 6 year course. Is that where he got his taste for repression and massacree?
Edited: Spelling, spelling (sigh).
