Hi Folks, I haven't been here in a while, but I thought you should know about this;

I would write to them myself, but I'm not sure how they feel about us Canucks at the moment...

Bwahahahaha! Hovind! He's got to be truly the biggest ass in the Creationist herd, barring not even Sarfati (whose PhD is a real one).

http://www.geocities.com/kenthovind/ Check it out. Lots o' giggles.

For yet more on this inbecilic turkey, go to Talk Origins. They've got a good page on him.

Great to see ya back, Rat! Don't be such a stranger.

I was in the service for 4 years, and I meet more than my share of people who were just like the couple cited in the article. I always thought it was kinda of sad to know that these people's kids will be brainwashed with young earth creationism nonsense.

I certainly don't expect Mr. Hovind to part with his money given his ridiculous expectations & bias, but is that really the number of challanges he's had? We "evolutionists" can do better than that!

His challenge is simply ridiculous. I'm sure he's had more challenges than that, but when you examine the details of the challenge, it's obviously unwinnable, so it's a waste of time to try. See here or here or here for analysis of him and his challenge.

I wonder if M/Sgt. DeField and the good folks at Stars and Stripes are aware that Hovind is a 9-11 conspiracy theorist?

Well, that's OK then - as long as you keep lying consistently, you should be given some credibility for what you say.

Wow! From the article:
quote:
To the Illinois native and founder of Creation Science Evangelism, evolution is as faith-based as Christianity and should be treated as such, not as science.

“It's a religion,” he said in an interview after a seminar session. And it's a religion being taught in public schools and paid for with tax dollars, while his religion is taboo inside classroom walls.
While I admit to believing that much of "science" is, in truth, little more than well-founded, well-thought-out, reasonable belief-systems which are promoted as dogma (--that is, just as are religious systems--), I never thought of evolutionary theory as one of these.

How can anyone think of evolution as religious dogma?

On the other hand, the notion that all came into instantaneous existence 6,000 years ago has to be one of the most nonsensical things that I've ever heard: Downright SILLY (--although I do not deny that it is possible----as are almost all things).

The article goes on with the comment:
quote:
Hovind said evolution has seeped into the textbooks of America's schools because “atheists” have taken over state school boards and because textbook publishers care more about money than truth.
Now, this is just plain CRAZY; NUTSO; BONKERS. The existence of evolution is one of the very best evidences for the existence of a Devine Entity. Atheists? Bah! Au contrair!

(An aside: I have deliberately used the word "entity" rather than the usual "being" since "being", to me, implies time; whereas it is not at all clear that "God" is constrained by time as, for instance, are we.)

And then there's this gem:
quote:
“Evolution caused World War II,” [Hovind] said.

He said German leader Adolf Hitler believed he was destroying the weak through the Holocaust and perpetuating the strong through selective breeding, a clear example of evolution's mantra.
Aha! <sarcasm on> Now there's a novel, original thought. <sarcasm off> Why, for example, does Mr. Hovind think that there are so many superb African-American athelets? Unpleasant as it is to say/remember it: It's simply that African-Americans of two centuries ago were slave field-hands and were bred, as were horses, for strength, agility, etc. All things that were good traits in a field-hand; all things which are also good traits for athletics. Mean and ugly as it sounds, black athelets owe some thanks to the good breeding practices by Southern slave owners. (Or, as we used to say in the Army: "Pay-back is a mother-f**ker!")

And finally there is this:
quote:
“Survival of the fittest has a flip side — the death of the unfit,” Hovind said.
<sarcasm on> With such a deep understanding of evolutionary theories, <sarcasm off> it is little wonder that in 15 years as a high-school science-teacher, Mr. Hovind never taught evolution.

Well, no evolution = no growing diversity of lifeforms (assuming life gets started at all) = no emergence of hominids = no humans = no WWII.

There are better ways to prevent wars, but Dingbat is actually right in a twisted sort of way.

I think I have to take the opposit view.
If man is still fighting the same kind of battles that he did 2,000 years ago then he hasn't evolved very far.
I know it takes many thousands of years but one would think even 2,000 would make some difference, yet it seems sometimes we are going backwards.
