Surprise, surprise!

Fighting injustice a monkey business
quote:
A recent study by researchers in the US shows brown capuchin monkeys refused to play along when they saw another monkey get a better payoff for performing the same work. This suggested evolutionary origin has something to do with human aversion to unfair treatment.

Well, to quote the pointy eared one, "fascinating!"

While this is definitely interesting, there is, of course, more to the story. At least one other researcher has posited that the results do not point to a sort of generalized aversion to unfair treatment, but instead to an "I got screwed" response.

While the distinction is obviously a fine one, the 'spin' the article puts on the research implies some sort of genetically-based generic "fairness detector," which in turn implies that the pointy-eared one's "good of the many" isn't just a philosphical construct. The opposing spin is that the monkeys' reactions were based on a more selfish-sounding "hey, I did more work than I apparently had to, therefore I am pissed off" kind of attitude.

But even this explanation to their behavior suggests the existence of an ego. I wonder what Bible believers think about that conclusion. Since they are more or less forced to believe it could not be an evolutionary trait, what can it be?

Obviously, Goddidit. He made those "lower animals" selfish, to better contrast the glory that is Man.

Oh, geez, I think I've got to puke, now.
