Some posts here on Skeptic Friends have indicated that members here are writing on religious forums like Rapture Ready and such places.
I must confess that I have recently (half under cover) written posts on the Rapture Ready BB. Who besides me have done/are doing this?

I riccocheted aroung TheologyWeb for a while, crossing paths and phrases with Jonathon Sarfati, he of AiG fame. I gave it up as an exercize in futility. I still drop by, now and again, just to check out their latest irrationality and see how Joe Meert and lately, Glenn Morton, are doing. There's a lot of good, scientific talent taking my place in the ron-de-lay. As to their moderation, to be kind I will merely say, it sucks septic tanks.

I am a serial lurker at Rapture Ready...
I love some of the words of wisdom on there. I have an account, but I never post. Just in case though. |

Apparently one can find the occational wisdom there. Other times the fanaticism of some of the posters scares the shit out of me. I'm not registered as Dr. Mabuse over there, but when you see one of my posts, it should be pretty obvious. |

I should have put my sarcastic face on when I said "Words of Wisdom" There is very little wisdom at RR.
The fanaticism outnumbers the wisdom by about 1000 to 1 |

Well, one of them said they thought Johnny Depp is a good actor, and Pirates of the Caribbean is a great movie.
Some of them think G.W. Bush is the best president there ever was... Statements like that gives me the creeps. And others seem to live in the 50ies, accusing liberals for everything that is bad, their "commie-fear" evident. |

I post at RR, and got banned 3 times.
I won't say who I post as, of course. |

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.
Another example of this guy's lunacy here. |

Now, wait just a gull darn minute there, buddy! What exactaly is YOUR deffinition of a great movie? I haven't seen 'Pirates' yet but am sure I'll like it. As for great, I don't know, but you make it sound like one should hate it. I've also seem many of the movies Jonny Depp has been in and I consider them pretty ok. Perhaps it's just because of the type of movie (off beat), I would have seen them no matter who was in them but I dont' think he added any less to the content. Just wondering why you threw that bit in there??? If you are going to critizize, let's use something a little less subjective. Bush for example.....his statements/comments about god. Yes, that's outright ofensive, when he's supposed to be representing all of the USA public.
I don't know about those web sites of which you speak, probably woundn't have time to post or read anyway. Why knock your head agains a wall? Let them think what they want, posting on a web site isn't going to change anything. Writting your views to your elected officals IMO is a better use of time. |

On the contrary, I loved it. I've seen it on the Big Screen twice already, even though a ticket is $10. When the DVD comes out, I'll buy it.
As for what makes a movie great... * Actors and the director have to make the story believeable. Not the old-fashion Hollywood goody-two-shoes hero. But someone who can mess up. * Big actors who are not afraid to go out of type casting. Like Harrison Ford in "What Lies Beneath", or "The Mosquito Coast". * Actors who doesn't play the role (like Tom Cruise) but who becomes the character he portrays (like Gary Oldman in "Romeo is Bleeding" or "Fifth Element", or Sir Ian McKellen in "Lord of the Rings" or "X-Men") * Subtle and/or high quality CGI or F/X. Like used in Robert Zemeckis movies such as "What lies Beneath", "Contact", "Forest Gump" * Satires like Paul Verhoeven's "RoboCop", "Total Recall" or "Starship Trooper" * Movies that are not predictable but has a twist to the story like "The sixth sense", or "The Matrix" * Well coreographed martial arts, like in "The Matrix" or Jackie Chan-movies.
I guess I could go on ranting. But movies doesn't have to be Great (with a capital 'G') for me to enjoy it. I can easily overlook flaws if need be, like in just-another-action-movie for entertainment. But at least now you got a picture of what kind of movies I like. I've seen 25 movies on the theater already this year, and there are two more months left.

I loved "Sleepy Hollow"...

I just wanted to point out that one might really find tiny bits of wisdom on such boards.

Wanna see a break from typecasting? Check out Patrick Stewart's tiny role in L.A. Story.
(One of my favorites is Big Trouble in Little China - it includes a hero who's very much not perfect. My wife hates it, but she did get me the DVD for my birthday last year.)

How about Jeffrey? I saw Patric Stewart on stage in Ibsen's "The Master Builder" this summer in London. AWESOME stage presence. He is one of my top five favourite actors. (I may have seen L.A. Story, but I don't recall it.) quote:

No, I seldom visit the religion boards. Sometimes, I check a few posts at RR and a Baptist political too far right board, but get frustrated quickly.
I do get excited when someone tells me that their house is haunted. I tell them I have all kinds of cameras, meters, and other important looking stuff. I ask to be allowed to stay in their house for two weeks so that we can capture that darned ghost, or, at least, get some circumstantial evidence. I go on to tell them about the Nobel and the Pullitzer that we're going to win, and all the big bucks we're going to rake in with book and movie rights.
Ya know what? I ain't never had no takers. I guess they like their ghosts! |
