That's why I talked about the "purpose" of democracy. The United States of America was never intended to be a democracy, no. We need to define the term democracy. Some use the term democracy to mean that the power resides with "the people" and the benefits of that power fall to "the people." Certainly a far cry from what the founders intended, and a not quite so far, but still a far cry from what exists now.
Is that a worthy goal, and how do we achieve it? With the present system, short term greed is the goal. That will always color interpretations of the Constitution. If the Constitution does not have the goal of this type of democracy, then is it a worthy document? |

Got this on a Kucinich email list:
"I was for Kucinich, but I wanted to vote for a winner, so I went to a Dean Meetup at a local library. The leader of the meeting started by essentially saying that he really liked Kucinich, but he had no chance of winning. Most others at the meeting voiced a similar preference of Kucinich over Dean yet echoed the same rationale for supporting Dean. The experience totally solidified my support of Kucinich who's platform most closely resembles the changes I'd like to see in the US. We should each vote for the candidate who we believe is the best, not who we think will win. We need to let Dean supporters know that it is OK to vote for who you *really* want." |

Sea Sorbust goes solidly for Choice (1), the Doctors Dean: Howard and Judith Steinberg Dean.

I am a little late in noticing this very interesting thread.
I am "Pro Choice" and am an Independent (from a long-time Republican family) who has been voting for Democrats for years, mostly for Pro-Choice reasons. I like Capitalism, so I hope that if a Democrat prevails, he/she/it will be interested in Capitalism, too.
I always vote, so my insignificant vote will somewhat count (even if my choice loses).

Looks like Iowa, the "Live Free or Die" state...New Hampshire...and others noticed that Mr. Doctor Dean fostered the plundering EcoTerrorists...the land developers...over the natural near-pristing beauty of Vermont. "Better condos, malls and asphalt than greenery," it seemed that Mr. Docter Dean dictated while Vermont's governor. Iowa Democrats must have said "Better anybody but Bush the President for Big Oil...except for a President who ignored environmental laws and ecological sanity in favor of Big Land Development.
Well...it's time to make another choice.
Now yo go for - ex-Governor Christine Whitman of New Jersey for President
- ex-Governor Bruce Babbit of Arizony for Vice President.
Maybe between the two of them we can avoid ecological and environmental catastrophy. Maybe.
Or is it too late for EcoSalvation? Are the land developing EcoTerrorists destined to win the jackpot at the cost of our ability to live on Earth's surface?
Ah well. Only time will tell. |

I am a big fan of Kucinich. I think he has some very bright ideas, and also comes across as a bright, literate man--which is something I really like. I wrote a pro-Kucinich speech for oral communications class last semester, if anyone wants to read it I'll link it at the bottom of the page.
"Anybody but Bush 2004!"--that's my battle cry. At this point I don't care as much who the democrats nominate, I just know I am not voting for Bush.

The bottom line is this:
Do you really want four more years of this pack of scumbags running the country into the sewer?
I'm registered Independant, and I've always enjoyed Election Day. I spend a lot of time figuring out which is the best for the job, party not withstanding. Someone running unopposed offends me, so I write in a name, sometimes my own, sometimes a friend's, sometimes Mickey Mouse, depending on what nickle & dime job is not being contested.
I'm pretty much a somewhat left-leaning moderate, but since Shithead was appointed, I've gone way left. As it stands now, I only want these bastards gone! I will again vote for the most noble when the country can afford it.
Edited to add: Welcome, and I too, like Kucinich! |

If you vote in Republicans like Kerry who so far has supported Bush in everything he's done, then what difference does it make if Bush wins or Kerry wins?
I'm not a part of the Bush or Bush crowd. Kucinich and Nader are capitalists. They want to change the system into something closer to what humans can achieve under a flawed system. If one of them doesn't win, I'm either moving to Norway or I'm done voting.
The old saying is if voting had any hope of changing anything, they'd make it illegal and I guess that's right. Voting is just a way to make us think we have a voice. |

Bush, Clinton, Bush, Kerry . . . ! Who could/can tell the difference? It's all sort of like the British Monarchy: Policies change with a change of P.M./government but not with a change of the monarch. King This or Queen That: Who could/can really tell the difference other than a face or gender?
We in the U.S. seem to have come "full circle" from 1776 in our policical establishment. |

Say, there, 'Busto, olde girl. I just watched C. Whitman announce "46 [States]" as her answer to the Final Jeopardy question "How many Senators were there in 1958?" ! !
Wanna change your vote for Prexy?? Do ya? Huh?? Do ya?
(Edited to correct the spelling of "Jeoprody" to "Jeoprady". )
(Edited yet again to correct "Jeoprady" to "Jeopardy". Whew! )
