Have you accepted Cthulhu as your personal lord and devourer?
How long before the fundies find this and claim it proves there's a resurgence of demon worship?
Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fnord!

I was hospitalized for a week back in 1985. Spent the time reading In the Mountains of Madness. One of my "roommates" during the week had a couple of kids my age (at the time), who came over to my bed to "talk" to me one night. They saw what I was reading, and without hesitation or hint of jocularity, asked, "oh, do you worship Satan?" After chatting with them for a few minutes, they asked me if I wanted to come pray with them and their family around the other bed. I politely declined. |

There's a movie by John Carpener called "In the mouth of madness" http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0113409/ starring Sam Neill which have a distict Cthulu-feeling. I recommend it! |

Yeah, there are Lovecraft references in the film itself, too. Little doubt that Carpenter and/or De Luca were reading Lovecraft at the time. The IMDB User Comments seem split on whether or not it is a "good" Lovecraft-style movie, however. I think the movie got the important parts right, even if the "atmosphere" isn't quite as doom-and-gloom as some Lovecraft fans would enjoy. It feels like Lovecraft updated for the 1990's.
Oh, I was wrong about the book's name. It's At the Mountains of Madness and Other Novels. I'm sure I got it confused with In the Mouth of Madness. |
