Coincedently, my motorcycle club is having it's annual Winter Solstice party this coming Sat. I am cooking chitterlings as my contrabution to the eats, and bringing 1/2 gal of cheap whiskey as my contrabution to local liver dysfunction. The band will be a local 'grass group that nobody ever heard of, but is pretty damned good none the less (not to mention that they work cheap).
They say that, "You ain't havin' fun 'till they call 911!" but our clubhouse is forty miles up-country and plumb back in the sticks, and the couple of non-riding neighbors we have are invited. There don't gonna be no 911.

The article does bring up an interesting question: Why do we not all offically celebrate the Solstice and the Equinox? These seem to be much better excuses for drunken excess and potlatch than the current crop of hollidays.
