If SFN seems especially slow today, it may because the Code Red Worm is looking to be as big a problem now as it was July 19th. This doesn't mean that SFN's server has it, but those that do are clogging the 'net with their %$#@&* IP probes.

for a good idea of the number of infected servers.

I feel very sorry for the poor souls who have nothing in their lives and need to disrupt the lives of others such as hackers and crackers. None of them are smart enough to "get a life" of their own, so they feed off the rest of us...

Sadly its a lot easier to break the security then to put it up.

I dunno, when I went to patch my system from start to finish it too all of 5 minutes. Is that such a hassle? Is that more than a hassle than the problems that we have seen and the potential of what we might see?

Though I could care less since I don't deal with clunky, hard to deal with servers with Unix or Linyx we could go into the security problems there as well that are just as bad though not as widely publicized.

I won't go on much more but you may have notuced that the only problems SFN has had are due to those lazy idiots that do not keep up on matters that server administrators should either take care of or should not be called server administrators.

The advantage of linux in security terms is mainly that holes get fixed quickly.

Under windows most of them are only fixed in the next SP which often means a computer is vunerable for months even if the admin keeps up to date with the latest patches.
