Since I worked on the edge of the rock and roll industry for a couple years, does that make me an instrument of Satan?

I wonder what verlch thinks of the free jazz movement back in the 60s?
Hi Indeterminacy, and welcome!
Verlch is a trip! Unfortunatly, he seems to be again on hiatus. But fear not; if he holds true to form, he'll return soon.
Other SF Friends to the contrary, verlch is a valuable addition to our community. I can't recall anyone bringing forth so much good information from so many studious people, all by himself and in such short time frames. Amazing!
As to what he might think of anything from the '60's, who knows? I could be wrong, but I get the impression that he's a bit young to have first-hand memories of it.
Me, I loved the music and still listen to it.
Edited to clean up some very odd punctuation.

Big welcome to Indeterminacy. I sort of wish you joined up because of something we're proud of, but more members mean a better forum, no matter how they arrive.
filthy, I was under the impression that verlch was in his forties. It does take time to get married and divorced, have kids, and also become a general contractor. He may have even mentioned his age, way back when, but I'm not about to go back through umpty-ump pages of threads to look for it. |

Verlich again comes up with a winner of a site (cuttingedge). They apparently really hate that flaming liberal, fag-loving, devil worshiping, bowing to allah, elitist George W. Bush.
How in the world do these people come up with this stuff??

Yes, I too.
But we are talking 40 & some years ago, depending. As a pre-pubescent child, how much of the era would be remembered and appreciated?
I do not see the Big V doing Woodstock except as taken there by his parents, maybe.
And I also, am not about to inflict myself with the task of tracking down a single post from the maelstrom of the verlch threads.
Edited 'cause I thought I could spell 'maelstrom' but couldn't.

True, filthy, true. Just wanted to avoid the impression, though, that verlch is some snot-nosed kid creationist. |

You're probably right, but then again anyone with that much righteous indignation and lack of culture would not even know who Miles is, or Hendrix, or (gulp...) John Cage.

You should indeed be proud, Dave. I have to agree with filthy in that a lot of great discussion and information came from his rants.

I would agree, but it just seems too much like saying, "hey, I had lots of great conversations while hospitalized with syphillis." |

Dunno, Dave. Party of me really thinks that the v-man really is some punk kid troll having fun yanking our collective chain. It wouldn't be too hard to jot down a few notes regarding a fake history so as to remember and then spew it out wheen needed for effect... |

   !!!
But on the other hand, perhaps verlch is a spoof?
There's some very smart and smart-assed, snotnosed kids out there. 'Tis not beyond the bounds of possibility that one of them has been chasing us around like my house 'possum on a cockroach hunt.
And on the gripping hand, hell, he's fun -- after all, isn't catching a dose of Old Joe fun, even though nobody's smiling at the time?
"I gotta chancre on my anchor, scrape it off...." -- a piece of an old Navy drinking song. Happily, I don't remember the rest of it.

How did I know, filthy, that you would find that funny?
Actually, my wife thought it was really good, too. Great minds think alike.quote: But on the other hand, perhaps verlch is a spoof?

Speaking of 'possum, I forgot to tell you that one of 'em scared the bejeezus outta me a couple weeks ago. I go outside to dump trash in the can one night, turn around to come back in, and see the sucker out of the corner of my eye, walking around my fence as if he/she owned the place.
Anyway, my take on the smarty-pants snot-nosed kids is that they'd actually go through the motions, at least, of actively trolling. verlch doesn't. To continue the fishing analogy, verlch spends his time chumming, and that's it. Just flinging offal out, and not even paying attention to what comes and takes a nibble. |

Maybe. But sometimes, after long lulls in certain threads, he'll suddenly appear with random, off-topic posts about Masons or Islam or Babylon or whatever. This is followed by a new life to the thread wherein verlch ducks from serious debate and twists the topic to whatever new conspiracy he finds online. Who seriously acts like that? So I guess the question is if verlch is a snot-nosed kid playing a jackass adult, or if he's actually just a jackass adult. (Or perhaps a jackass adult playing a really jackass adult...) |

Enjoy your 'possum. Put a little cat food out for him and he'll become a regular visitor. He'll have a most saluberous effect on the mouse situation.
I think that verlch is neither a snot-nosed kid nor a jackassed adult, but a natural phenomina come forth to wake us up to the world around us. Consider all of the references he has pulled out of us; all of the research we have done in pursuit of him. It's been some pretty damn' good readin' &' larnin' as well as a lot of fun.
If you ask me, verlch is almost enough to make you belive in angels. I do hope he returns soon.
