Evidence that strangely-based laws exist in places other than the U.S.A. (for those who were worried we'd cornered the market in crackpottery):Sweden's Parliamentary Ombudsmen's office in Stockholm, looking through some old environmental records recently, discovered that in 1986 a regional environmental court in Jaemtland province had denied a resort-development permit to a builder on the ground that the Loch Ness-resembling "Storsjoe monster" (serpentlike body, catlike head, first rumored in 1635) often "sighted" there had been declared endangered. Declared the ruling, "(I)t is prohibited to kill, hurt or catch animals of the Storsjoe monster species" or to "take away or hurt the monster's eggs, roe or den." [Washington Post-AP, 5-3-04]

I've heard stories about Storsjö-odjuret, the "Storsjoe Monster", but always considered those as fairy-tales. Such a verdict by the environmental court must have been noticed by the media, but I have no recollection of it (it was such a long time ago, and when I was a devout Pentacostal). But there have been fuzz about it from time to time, just like with the Loch Ness Monster.
Both monsters are probably nothing more than wishful thinking. |

Probably?
I don't know anything about the Swiss one.... but with the number of people who have actively searched for Nelly (Loch Ness Monster), it's safe to say that no such creature inhabits the lake. |

Well because they haven't found the Loch Ness monster doesn't really tell us whether or not the Swedish lake monster exists, but since there is no real evidence, there is little reason to believe it exists. |

Yes, probably. But the probability of a Swedish lake monster is extremly low. If you know your Logic-101 you'd know that you can not prove the nonexistance of the "Storsjö Odjuret". And the only Swiss monsters I've heard about are the Gnomes Of Zürich, but obviously, they inhabit a different eco-system.
I bet the court ruling in the opening post was made as a publicity-stunt. I do not approve of that being done, however. |

I can almost see why you think I imply that the lack of proof for Nelly = No Sweedish lake monster........

My grammar is not up to par in that phrase (and rarely ever is, I admit). But the second half (after the .... ) should be read independently. Perhaps changing the end of it (the lake) to read (Loch Ness) would have been clearer. |

The only mistake I could see was that you mixed up Sweden and Switzerland. Sweden - Swedish. Switzerland - Swiss. The grammar looks fine to me.
Edited to add: Comfusing Sweden and Switzerland seems to be rather common in America. Engish speaking Europeans seem to have less problem with it. Something to help you remind: Swiss Air has the flag of Switzerland painted on the tail of their planes. |

Ah, sorry about that. I completely missed your point there. I should've known better than that. My English isn't exactly flawless so it's probably more common that I misread other's texts... |
