Here's a little supplement to Bible reading:

Here are three great sites I use all the time
The skeptics annotated Bible has all the fodder for showing the fundies what is really in their book. And an annotated Qu'ran and Book of Mormon are there as well. http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/
And, the Bible Gateway is a very good Bible search engine for looking up those things you remember are in there but just can't remember where. http://www.biblegateway.com/cgi-bin/bible
And this one is a good Koran search engine for seeing what the Koran really says about women or whatever. If you think the Bible is hard to read, try the Koran. http://www.hti.umich.edu/k/koran/

Forgive the intrusion, beskeptigal, but I would like to advertise the fact that the SFN's Skeptic Links section already has two of those links under Religion: Other Resources, and the third under Religion: Criticism/Skepticism.
Again, sorry, but I've recently been thinking about the Links section's underuse (from my point of view), and just want to point it out to the new folks around here.
No apologies, mate. I hadn't looked around much yet. The other links on your pages look very useful as well. |

I find the Bible an interesting read, but I've not studied it in any sort of a serious way. A while back, I was thinking of picking it up again, but I've misplaced my copy. Also, I often find the commentary here and eleswhere to be most instructive.
I'll get another copy courtesy of the Gideon Society the very next time I stay in a motel that doesn't have an hourly rate.
You don't have to steal a copy from a motel. I'll be more than happy to send you a copy, free and clear. |
If I were any more jaded, there'd be Chinese artisans trying to carve me up. |

A friend introduced my wife and I to the One Year Bible. Otherwise, we would never have read the whole bible....most people that start out to get bogged down somewhere early on in the OT and give up. We're on our 3rd year of reading it. |

I've been reading the Bible for 35 years. I couldn't tell you how many times I've read it through but I like to read the different versions. |

So then, what do you think of all the contradictions, inconsistencies, incredible cruelty supported by 'God', and lack of scientific accuracy? |

Yeh, Gorgo's correct. The Gideons spend a lot of time handing them out all over the country. They're cheap, hardcover printings, but it must still cost a lot.
In the unlikely event that I get desperate for Scripture, I can borrow from any of several, born-again neighbors. But thanks just the same.
And welcome to SFN, all the new guys!
