And why? Why does no one pay attention? Is everyone in the world an idiot? Can no one learn from the stupidity of others?

quote:
A-Ram will be especially hard hit. Because of its location, it has developed in the last few years into a kind of transshipment point for goods travelling from Israel to the West Bank and vice versa. Israelis and Palestinians do business there. All this will end with the wall. The means of livelihood for many of its 60 thousand inhabitants will disappear.

This is only one example of what is happening now all over the West Bank, turning it into a crazy quilt of walled-in enclaves, "connected" by bridges, tunnels or special roads, which can be cut off at any moment at the whim of the Israeli government or of a local army officer--and, all around them, roads-for-Israelis-only, expanding settlements and military installations. Every Palestinian town--Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarm, Kalkilia, Bethlehem, Hebron and others--will become the "capital" of a tiny enclave, cut off from all the others, from their "hinterland" and villages, except by tortuous roundabout routes. Fifty-five percent of the West Bank will be Israeli, the Palestinian enclaves will amount to 45% (about 10% of historical Palestine).

This will not last short of genocide. That's what history tells us.

Ummmmm.., not everyone, just most.

"I have never ordered torture," Bush said. "I will never order torture." Reminds me of, "I didn't have sex with that woman," for some reason, though the effects on the nation's standing are a whole lot different, huh...

Whoa Tiger, If you are talking about 'The Wall' as in 'Berlin' (and I don't mean Irvin) are you suggesting that
  • A) The Wall went up, then the genocide started? Which to be honest, I don't think you are.
  • B) The chronology of war/genocide is unimportant to the comparison, but the results will be the same.
  • C) Either the Israelis or the Palestinians will (attempt) to eradicate the other?
  • D) None of the above, Welshdean, you are thick as pig-shit.

I think I'll go with 'C', although that's not exactly what my thought was. I was thinking of the Jewish Ghettos in Germany just prior to WW II. History tells this sordid story all too vividly.

The situation in the Mideast is deterioring so rapidly, Israel included, that it's all but impossible to to make any prediction based on the situation. The wild card in the game is the US. Nobody knows what we'll do next, including ourselves.

Man I wish I had offered you this as the 'E' option. I simply had not considered your post deply enough.
Ghettos, eradication of vermin, I can now see your fears.
These fears of yours, do beg the questions;
Would the world allow that to happen again, to that extent? Would we step in, before the Middle East finds itself in that unthinkable situation?
I like to think we've 'evolved' morally to the extent that the events in the forties couldn't and wouldn't be allowed to happen again.
We didn't and couldn't 'KNOW' what was going on in the death camps during the early forties, but that 'kinda shit' couldn't be hidden today, could it?

I know what we will do next! We will do whatever Karl Rove thinks will boost W's poll numbers!

Seriously, I hope that something along the lines of 1940 Germany could not be hidden now. Not saying genocide can't happen (see Rowanda in the 90's), but one would hope that it can't be kept a secret. Also, I would hope that the US doesn't sit idly by and let it happen.
