quote:
They thought it was over and seemed a bit disappointed before I continued: "Maybe you can help me with something, though. You see, I know how to get the quarter out of your hand and into my pocket, but I've never been able to figure out how it gets out of my pocket into the matchbook." They looked puzzled, and I had one of them go pick up the matchbook and open it. They were floored. One of them swore I'm in league with the devil. The other eventually asked for me to empty my pocket because she thought another quarter might be in there. I looked at her and said "Is that what you really believe?" She looked thunderstruck and said "My god. You really did it, didn't you?"
Fun as all get out. Frightening as hell.
Frightening is a good word for it. Are you a really big scary man that she was scared to say 'yes, show me the damn quarter.' ?
Reminds me of a distraction trick my ex-bf taught me with cards (couldn't remember how to do it now to save my life) that used a bit of tricky fingerwork to keep 'your' card at the bottom of the deck, and slid towards you when you cut the deck (but invisible to the observer if you hold the cards correctly)
Smooth enough in any case

Oh, sure. Van Damme and Segal tremble when I'm near (and not just 'cause I'm cute...).
Truth be told, though, as I suppose it must---no, I'm not a big guy.

Good stuff; you can do perform many effects with this kind of move, plus some others which, while requiring practice, are not so out of reach as one might believe. But I'm not really trying to turn this into an exposure thread...
What REALLY amazes me is finding good magicians who can totally blow me away either with superior skill or a new presentation. Speaking strictly about skills, I'm just middle-of-the-road type guy, but since I research the subject, my knowledge of techniques is fairly extensive. Even so, the guys at the local magic shop still occasionally come up with a new effect (usually using old methods) that baffles me. Then I either have to spend hours figuring it out or I buy the darned trick to read the instructions, which is, of course, their goal.
But I've never seriously accused them of being satanspawn.
My kids still love me. |

Funny I should find something on magic tricks here right now. Just got finnished watching a little Penn & Teller.
They did a card trick with John Cleese. Teller was locked in a cabinet filled with water, he held the key but would not let go of it until the trick was finnished. Penn had John examin an unopened deck, pick a card and sign it. Shuffle back into the deck, (yea right).
Penn counts out some cards, and picks the wrong one. He tries again, and again, all the while a woman is calling out the time. Scrambling through cards dropped on the floor, Teller starts to convulse and drops the key at around 7 minutes. John picks it up, but finds it does not fit the lock, Teller is now just floating in the cabinet.
Penn says some solomn words for his dead partner, turns the body around so we can see his face again, and the card is stuck in his face mask.
