Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

something like $150-$175

Best ebay auction I ever saw was for an "ass beating".

IIRC, some guy tried to auction his soul on ebay.

I think they pulled the auction down since there wasn't any way that he could deliver on the sale.

$150 for a plastic bag! Pure genius!

I'm skeptical. Probably a set-up.
But then again, Pet Rocks did make its inventor a millionaire.

A coworker of mine and I calculated that one could probably make (and put on Ebay) about 10 of these an hour, for a gross profit of somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,600.

Why is this noteworthy? We are, after all, a species of idiots.

Consider how much scratch John Edward and Uri Geller pull in from a gullible public. At least this turkey got a nice, clean, rather colorful, plastic bag out of it. The victims of Edward and Geller, and the rest of the psychic grifters, as well as sundry, motormouth preachers of various stripes, and not to mention Scientologists , et al., return doodly squat beyond pleas and even demands (usually successful) for yet more money.

Friends, whatever field of endevor you might be into, it's the wrong one. If you wish quick fortune, drop everything right now and get yourself some sort of figurative crystal ball, or do like L. Ron Hubbard (who wasn't all that great a writer, IMO) and start a cult. Go for the gold!

Oh yeah, get out there and shear them willin' sheep. That's where it's all at. After all, anyone who'd actually want to pay for a plastic bag, available at any grocery store -- just ask the cashier and she'll give you one -- should be easy.

I wonder what the bag was wanted for. I rather doubt it was for kite-flying (according to the blurb, the longest it flew was four seconds). Is the guy possibly a glue or paint sniffer and the grocery store cut off his supply? If so, that would explain a lot!

Edited because I too, am an idiot who writes only a little better than Hubbard once did.

I wonder what kind of interest there would be for the sale of a used mantra...

He may not be all that dumb, there are not a lot of other ways you can do absolutely nothing and make $150 for it.

I am actually in the process of constructing what would seem to be to the sheep as undeniable proof in the legitimacy of a cult that you should all be hearing about in the news within the next 15 years. Yes, it seems like a lot, but In 15 years, I'll be a mere 33 years old, and own a fortune! And if you wonder why I propose this exciting new cult here, be rest assured that it's because the Friend's network is definitely not my targeted audience, although my clever symbolisms will be noteworthy to most of you, that I feel most assured.

Yo mama's so fat, she's on both sides of the family.

Go for it, mama!

But we'd apprecate it if you'd not be cruel to the impoverished, the widows and orphans, nor disabled veterans. That's the religious right's and the neocon's perogitive and they are so good at it that not even Beelzebub can compete.
