It is very interesting. Our imported fire ants, also from SA, have been observed to be cooperative between neighboring nests, no longer competing for resorces. Not too many years ago, they'd fight to the death. It is concievable that we too, might soon have such a colony, if we don't already.
A species entering a new enviornment and learning how best to exploit it is a fascinating thing. We are most fortunate to be able to to observe this small incidence of it. On the other hand, I despise fire ants!
