I have recently noticed that much more irony exists in this world than I have given credit for.

One such irony is that I have been critically lambasted quite a number of times this year by some of my less-than freethinking acquaintences because of my critical views regarding religion, astrology and other hokeyisms.

They especially like claiming that I am "closed minded" or not "open enough" to these ideas.

Man, what sweet irony... there used to be a time when skepticism was the only open-mindedness on the block, and being a skeptic usually got you burnt at the stake and such.. Those days seem to be over.

Seems that many people are keeping such an open mind as to allow their brains to drop out..let the bad times roll..

Comments, commisurations and money will be appreciated.

Find your own damned answers!

Orpheus,

I think that what you are seeing is a necessary consequence of our modern outlook on science etc. In days past, there was a much more regimented and structured way of thinking. Thinking 'outside the box' was not considered at all to be what a sane person would do. I think that ironically, the popularity of science ha sled to the current state of affairs. What is popular about science is the creative and curious way that one can view the world/universe around us. What many people don't realize is that science is very structured and mechanistic itself. It fails to provide valuable knowlege when the various mechanisms are ignored (Pseudoscience). People want free thought without the rules of the game. Add to this situation, recent religious and spiritual backlashes and you have the present situation. Instead of skeptics having to knock down the walls of rigid dogma as in the past, they now need to dig through the bullshit of irresponsible speculation.

Greg.

Pbbbt. You want ironic? How about geocentrist creationists posting to the Bad Astro BB? How about Moon Hoax Believers calling themselves skeptics? How about getting three spams a day from astrologers?

My life is so ironic I'm starting to rust.

Three spams a day? Where do you keep the tins?

Perhaps you can tell them that you are a Sagitarius with a bad moon rising.
