How do UFO's make into the "science" section of major press outlets?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5897539/
and the website of the "science" organization the article references.

The same way creationists's (and Behe) get their books in the science section of the book stores, by the ignorance of journalists and book sellers.

Well, if you get your news from that NIDS place your going to get that kind of stuff. That site makes no bones about promoting UFOlogy. They just latch onto a few legit science projects to give themselves an appearance of credibility.
If MSNBC quotes these guys, it's only because they can. It's tabloid journalism. A writer or an editor will come across the original story. Then, all they need to do is find some nut with a degree to say it's possible. Voila! It's now publishable, and the average dingbat says, "Wow! Just maybe they have something here." The story's filled page space and sold copy. Whereas, a story about the discovery of a new type of fungus isn't published, because it takes up page space that no one's ever going to read.
Honestly, does anyone really care about some damned, new fungus? Even the majority of the folks on this board would be reading the UFO story long before we read the fungus story. And, that's good marketing. |

I haven't read a UFO story in years. Not because I haven't seen them; hell, they're everywhere. It's because I've become all but convinced that they are all written by perhaps a dozen or so people, each assigned a different aspect of the general topic. Except in minor detail, they have all been pretty much the same since 1950.
"BOOORRING!" -- Homer Simpson
When these hacks finally come up with something orginal or -- yeah, right! -- real, maybe I'll read of it. Or not.
Edited to add that I just took the poll. I marked 'Mental Delusion' because they didn't have a 'Quaint Fiction for the Easily Impressed' or an 'Outright Lies' answer.
