This just in:

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Republicans say filmmaker Michael Moore should be prosecuted for offering underwear, potato chips and Ramen noodles to college students in exchange for their promise to vote.

Michael Moore Responds:

"My friends, they will not catch me. Though I may be on the run, and I may never be able to return home to my beloved Michigan, I make this solemn vow to you and yours: The slackers of America shall not be denied their noodles, they will proudly wear their clean underwear as free Americans, and they will vote Bush out of office come November 2nd (though they will not show up to the polls until well after noon)!"

Is it against the law to give people stuff to get them to vote?

I remember some politician in the 80's handing out $1 bills to people and asking them to vote.....

I'm with Dude here. It might be against the law to buy votes for a candidate, but free underwear to vote? So what if you give someone a ride to the polls? Is that a bribe? And if it's just to vote for your choice of candidate? They must just be harassing Moore.

Or maybe, Moore's behind it because he's getting so much publicity from the attacks.

Well, I could see a problem if somebody like Soros went to FL and drove through one of the republican counties and started offering people with hurricane damage some kind of monetary assistance.... IF they agreed to vote for Kerry.

But somebody giving out $10 or $20 items and just asking people to go vote for whomever they want to vote for?

The republicans just hate Moore.

I think, someone correct if I'm wrong, that you can give a potential voter anything you want as long as you're not representing a candidate. Handing over a box of ginger snaps and a clean pair of skivvies, and telling the guy to get to the polls, nothing more, is perfectly legal. No partisanship, no bribe.

More of the blithering of desperation, methinks.

While I agree this is complete BS, Moore is clearly representing Kerry and telling the kids to vote Bush out of office. But hey, I'm all for that so go Moore!

I have been given note pads, mouse pads, pencils, magnetic refrigerator stickies, calendars and all kinds of odds and ends from people running for office. It is a regular practice...

Plus, I could use some new underwear...

Well as long as he doesn't tell them what to vote for. Besides, if people are ready to vote for a specific party because they got noodles for it, then perhaps they shouldn't vote at all anyway.
