Ironically, to me, it sounded nothing like "Katy" and more of just static feedback. There was also, "Yup... this is Rob," "Get out of my house," and "Where's mommie?"
C'mon now.

There have been some nights that I couldn't go to sleep because I kept on hearing a radio. I would search the entire house and find that nothing was on. So I started to think, "Maybe I can pick up radio inside my head..." because I would be able to hear a radio station when I am in a certain spot and in a certain direction. I've been baffled by these occurrences. Still no explaination, but there is a rational one somewhere. Or else maybe I can intercept radio signals...
Anyway, I hear things all the time that aren't really there. Then again, I have a very imaginative mind, and I dream about fantasies that instantly become reality, and I have to sit myself down, and tell myself, "Now, I've been dreaming again..."
I think a lot more people need to perform these mental exercises, especially if they are anything like me. By that I mean with a still child-like imagination. But is that plausible? *sigh* |

I think there are rare cases where people have been known to pick up radio signals through their dental work. But I wore braces for 4 years and never had it happen. Anyone have a metal plate in their head who would like to comment?

I don't have a metal plate in my head (yet), sorry. Nor I ever wore braces. But I think it might be possible, in some rare special occasions... maybe it could be a good sci-fi story's theme... ummm... |

You know, I actually had braces for a few years, up until last April when I had them removed. And come to think of it, I haven't heard the radio since!!!
This could me a mental mind-game, but I will not deny the fact that I sometimes heard radio signals. All in all, it's an interesting conversational point. |

I wonder...
If braces channel radio signals... I ask... why? How? That is a very curious point...
(not saying it does But let's assume it does...)

I know this response is way late, but thats what you get for arriving at the theater 65 minutes early! Usually I show up about 10 minutes to show time....with my choice of seat. Of course I often wait a week before I go see a flik. Oh and White Noise looks preety dumb to me. About as bad as Godsend, or Signs etc... |

Signs... I kinda liked Signs, until the end. Then I didn't like it anymore. |

Okay, my wife dragged me to see White Noise on Friday night. I say "dragged me" because I expected it to do little but hype the EVP phenomenon as "real." But, even though I'd seen some trailers, and I glanced at the movie's web site, I somehow missed the fact that this is a horror film. Heck, I didn't even catch that it starred Michael Keaton.
It's rated PG-13, so the absolutely best part of the whole experience was the shrill screams of hundreds of 14-year-old girls every time something startling happened. And no matter what you might think about EVP, this film will make you jump out of your seat at least once, if you allow yourself to get involved with the story. I wound up, in the last half of the film, trying to "protect" myself from sudden adrenaline surges by trying to predict when the startling stuff would happen, and I was only successful once.
(Oh, and because the film was rated PG-13, the worst part of the whole experience was the near-constant chattering of 14-year-olds. There was even a security guard walking up and down the aisles for the whole film, telling kids to be quiet, and about 20 minutes from the end of the movie, someone was frustrated enough to shout "shut the hell up!" at a talkative group. The guard was amusing, actually. At one point, things were quiet, and he sorta hunkered down in the aisle near me to watch the film. Something scary happened, all the girls screamed, and a second later the guard was on his feet, muttering "damn, didn't think that was going to happen." He had a smile on his face, as he went to quiet the kids again, which said to me that he got caught by the film, too.)
Anyway, my big fear - that the film would be nothing but hype - turned out to be wrong. The EVP in the film is so easy to hear (and see - much of the plot revolves around images coming out of TV static) that it bears little relation to the "real" stuff I've heard. Except for some text at the beginning and end of the film, the story is easily treated as complete fiction, and even the most die-hard skeptic can feel free to suspend his/her disbelief. It's entertaining.
Though I'm not sure that it was entertaining enough to be worth the ticket price (this was the first film I'd seen in a theater in two years, I was shocked at the price increase). My wife and I agree that other actors could have done better than Keaton in the lead. And personally, given the premises of the film, they could have made it a zillion times scarier, so even though I jumped numerous times, I don't think it was scary enough.
To conclude, the film was good enough that I don't want to give anything away. White Noise is very much a regular horror film, and not something which overly "preaches" about EVP, which is what I figured it would. In that sense, the movie far exceeded my expectations. |
