I knew it was a'comin'!

Wieland, incidently, is an MD, for whatever that's worth. I find him to be an excellent writer, if somewhat factually challenged.

It being far too soon to pontificate upon this find one way or another, the good doctor has used it to take yet another shot at Hugh Ross. He and Sarfati never pass up the chance to beat up on the apostate. :laughter:

But the best is yet to come. :more laughter:

If this sentence were literally true, you could be a million bucks richer by talking to James Randi.

ICR has checked in on it. It seems like the 'creation scientists'
(snort) are less than impressed.

Yet another “rethinking” of “human evolution”
Is the Indonesian dwarf a possible new species of man?
October 2004, by Frank Sherwin

In late October of this year, evolutionary scientists reported the discovery of “a new human-like species.” What made this discovery so spectacular to some was that this unexpected branch of the alleged tree of “human evolution” was a dwarf living about 18,000 years ago. The discovery was made by palaeoanthropologist Peter Brown of the University of New England in Armidale, Australia. The hobbit-sized individual was found on the Indonesian island of Flores, leading to the name Flores Man ( Homo floresiensis ).

Although evolutionists on both sides of the Atlantic are very excited about this find, problems are legion. Some evolutionists (e.g. Jeffery Schwartz of the University of Pittsburgh) maintain Flores Man should not even be identified within the genus Homo .

Here's a series of articles (free) from Nature:

When a new fossil is found it is often claimed that it will rewrite the anthropological textbooks. But in the case of an astonishing new discovery from Indonesia, this claim is fully justified.

This new species is also an excellent example of how punctuated equilibrium occurs. If this isolated species was able to move to the mainland and suddenly proliferate they would "appear suddenly" in the fossil record of the mainland. This is exactly the scenario that Gould and Eldridge hypothesized, an isolated population that quickly adapts to a new environment and (unlike these hobbits) then migrates quickly over a large area. Without finding the fossils on the small island the origin of these hobbits would be in doubt.

Just thought I would throw that in.

"...However, they will doubtless find ways to fit it into their ever-flexible evolutionary framework, even using it to reinforce evolutionary notions..."

A human, only a meter tall, hunting little elephants, also only a meter tall... Oh, it sounds so cute! I bet they were absolutely adorable creatures. Like kittens.

Yo mama's so fat, she's on both sides of the family.

And an interesting toss-in it is!

This same thing can be observed in process in living species. The Santa Catalina and Ruba Island rattlesnakes have all but lost their rattles. Entirely, in the Santa Catalina species. The rock rattlesnake lives in only a few pocket populations in NM and TX, and out of 80-some species, is the tiniest buzzworm of all. 20 inches is a big one. It hunts centipedes and tarantulas in the narrow crevices of the clifts and rock slides that it inhabits.

Evolution never sleeps.
