Hows that for AI... scary potential.

How exactly do you go about hooking up a neural network to a flight simulator?

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

I am not very knowledgable on this, so I will ask a dumb question: How do you keep the neurons 'alive'?

If I knew then what I know now then I would know more now than I know.

If it's anything like culturing other cells on petri dishes it's largely a matter of adding a solution of proper metabolites to it every once in a while. Aging of the cells and accumulation of toxins will likely be a problem soon though.

Does anyone know if this research is going to be published in a peer-reviewed journal soon, because it's absolutely fascinating.

Miss Tick sniffed. 'You could say this piece of advice is pricesless', she said. 'Are you listening?'
'Yes' said Tiffany.
'Good now...If you trust in yourself.."
'Yes..?'
'..and believe in your dreams...'
'yes?'
'...and follow your star..' Miss Tick went on.
'Yes?'
'You'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy. Goodbye.'

Hmm, apparently i was wrong:

quote:

We surmounted survival problems by using culture dish lids that form a gas-tight seal, and incorporate a transparent hydrophobic membrane (fluorinated ethylene-propylene) that is selectively permeable to oxygen (O(2)) and carbon dioxide (CO(2)), and relatively impermeable to water vapor. This prevents contamination and greatly reduces evaporation, allowing the use of a non-humidified incubator. We have employed this technique to grow dissociated cortical cultures from rat embryos on multi-electrode arrays. After more than a year in culture, the neurons still exhibit robust spontaneous electrical activity.

great stuff, i wish i had the time to delve into it more deeply.

I think they just used the brain as an intermediary for the control signals, It didnt fly itself.

That is so bloody cool.
And people ask me why I love science.
