Sure
Boy: I'm sad and scared. Girl: What's the probem, my friend?
B: I lost Hopkin Green Frog. G: I just want to kiss your red lips!
B: No! Not when it's like this!
B: Being human is hard. G: Can I see you tomorrow?

Yes. Not great dialogue though. And not as easy to translate than I first thought. Being as proficient in English as I am for a Swede, when I write post to this forum or elsewhere, I don't "think up" the post in Swedish, but when I'm writing I'm thinking in English, in my inner dialogue. I'm not sure how much work and time one need for that sort of thing, but only now I realise that in doing so, being a translator requires another kind of practise. It's a different way of thinking. |

Been there, Doc. Same for me. When I'm writing english, I'm thinking english. When I'm writing portuguese, I'm thinking portuguese. Translating, I think, involves reading one language and thinking in another, as to write it down. Don't know. I could ask my mother, she earns her living with translations... |

Hopkin explained:quote: The person who drew the flier is a sixteen-year-old boy who suffers from autism. His father was unaware that his son may have made more than one batch of fliers (it appears that new fliers were hung in May of 2004). He did know about the loss of the frog and I believe that he knew about the first batch of fliers.
He also did not want me to give the frog to his son. He's forgotten it, he told me. Bringing it up again will probably only bring up a bunch of bad memories.

Possible. But something tells me that this story might possibly be fictional. It has a bit to many logical and carefully placed melodramatic elements. I could be wrong, but... |

Chippewa, the guy who wrote that story is a journalist. The "moments" are, indeed, carefully placed. And, as one of the commentors on that piece wrote:Man, what a joykill, I'd rather we didn't know the truth and kept believing it was some 5 year old boy. If this were just a 5 year old he could be kicking it with new frogs and media attention for feel good stories, and parents getting a kick out of the photoshop stuff. Now it's something people probably don't want to have a laugh about. It's a pretty crappy addition to the whole story if it's not true. |

I sort of felt that way at first, too. But then another poster wrote this: quote: It's only a joykill if you let it be. Why don't we all channel the feeling of Hopkin into donating a stuffed animal to a toy drive or a local hospital. That way Hopkin kinda gets to go home. Even if it's in a parallel universe. --Bryan
And then this made me smile, because it was true.
quote: What I do find funny is the picture that the kid drew of the frog looked like a bad drawing of a frog. Then you see what the stuffed toy looks like and it's actually a pretty good drawing! --Bill

Hold it, wait. Is it true that the kid who originally wrote that actually has autism? If so, I feel like an @$$hole! |

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.
