For next Wednesday's SFN chat, it's Christmas in, well, December! How do skeptics and other non-beleivers celebrate a holiday so completely wedded to Western culture, but also so completely religious in origin? Conversely, are Christians concerned about the ever-growing capitalist (and therefore secular) elements of the holiday? And hell, since December 8 marks the start of Hanukkah, we can talk about that, as well!

Doubtless there will be plenty of punning, too, please stop by at 10 Eastern (9 Central) to add your own thoughts to this discussion!

The First Book of Moses called

GENESIS

1:1: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

(edited my moderator: rest of book of Genesis removed; also, previous moderator's message accidentally deleted due to other moderator's general inability to figure out which button to push)

I realize that Cuneiformist announed religious subjects for the wednsday chat.
If there are relevant passages in the Bible concerning Hanukkah, or Christmas, these may be posted here for reference, but "flooding" the thread by posting the entire Genesis was uncalled for.

Did demo really post all of Gensis? Or was it just a large part of it?

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Hey, Ricky. Actually, you have to ask Mab. (Well, it's time for my confession...) You see, at some point, Demo replied to my original post. By the time I got around to checking it again, Mab had already gotten to it. However, I wanted to say something to Demo just to let him know "hey, no hard feelings" or some such. But when I went to reply to Demo's (now-edited) post, I acidentally went in to edit it. So I clipped all of Mab's stuff and wrote my bit. It was only later that I saw my mistake and edited it again.

So that's the story...

All of it. I had to hit the [Page Down]-button many times to get to the end. The post was several times as long as this thread this far.
