Nothing tops the drunken bear story though, It drank 36 Raineer beers and was smart enough to stop after only half of one Coors! True and hilarious. Of course It may have passed out at that point, but its much funnier to think that bears hate Coors too. |

I remember that! It was indeed hilarious. Coors does indeed suck cess pools.
Speaking of bears and evolved forefeet, it just struck me: pandas have evolved a thumb of sorts from a modified wrist bone. So, I'm off to look it up.

After a breif look-around for panda dexterity, the best I found was this:
quote: Giant pandas have forepaws which are extremely flexible. Evolution has given them a enlarged wrist bone (the radial sesamoid) that works in the manner of an opposable thumb. This highly functional adaptation allows the giant panda to manipulate their primary food source, bamboo stems and leaves, with dexterity and precision. The hind feet of the giant panda lack the heel pad found in the other seven bear species.
It might be safe to assume that the 'thumb' evolved for easy manipulation of bamboo shoots and has never been used for anything else.
It seems a pity that such a remarkable adaption would have so limited a function, but that's evolution for ya. Nobody ever said it was efficent.
