"Liberal media" my hiney.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20041219/ap_on_go_pr_wh/time_person_of_the_year

quote:
The magazine's editors tapped Bush "for sharpening the debate until the choices bled, for reframing reality to match his design, for gambling his fortunes — and ours — on his faith in the power of leadership."

Now, to "reframe reality" (that is, to LIE) is laudable.

Un-frickin'-believable.

Let us not forget; Time has also named Stalin.

This isn't presicly an honor. It simply points out someone who has made a radical change. Osama was considered for it in '01, but the pussies on the editoral board nixed it.

I believe Hitler was also named one year.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Agreed, guys. I haven't read the full article yet (I'm a subscriber so I'll read it next week), but this appears to give his apalling failure of a presidency a sense of legitimacy. The quote seems to say, 'yeah, we know he's a lying dumbass, but look what he did! Wow!'

I couldn't remember if Hitler had made it or not, so I looked it up.

quote:
January 2, 1939

Greatest single news event of 1938 took place on September 29, when four statesmen met at the Fuhrerhaus, in Munich, to redraw the map of Europe.

The three visiting statesmen at that historic conference were Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain of Great Britain, Premier Edouard Daladier of France, and Dictator Benito Mussolini of Italy. But by all odds the dominating figure at Munich was the German host, Adolf Hitler.

Fuhrer of the German people, Commander-in-Chief of the German Army, Navy & Air Force, Chancellor of the Third Reich, Herr Hitler reaped on that day at Munich the harvest of an audacious, defiant, ruthless foreign policy he had pursued for five and a half years. He had torn the Treaty of Versailles to shreds. He had rearmed Germany to the teeth--or as close to the tooth as he was able. He had stolen Austria before the eyes of a horrified and apparently impotent world.

Hitler recieved the award, if award it is, in 1938.

Hitler and Stalin. Distinguished company our Dubya's in, isn't it?

I'm listening to a program about this right now on CNN. They are talking about how each Bush generation has outdone the one before, grandfather, father (one-termer), now son. It plays to me as though they're breeding more resilient cockroaches.

Robb, quote mining is beneath you.

The point was that as awards go, Time's Man of the Year means little. But I will admit that I can never resist a snide dig at the worst president in history. Just can't wait for the next opportunity!
