Sometimes words fail me: On a side note: get a load of this shit:quote: For those who want to learn more when they have the time (approximately 9 page .pdf file - just ignore the parts referring to 'millions of years ago'):

This Dynamic Planet World Map of Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Impact Craters, and Plate Tectonics
It's pretty interesting how everything works together. The more informed we are as Christians, the better able we will be to explain the end times to Christians and non-Christians alike.
If you morons ignore well established facets of geology like you encourage earlier in your post, you won't be able to explain jack-squat to someone who really knows geology!
EDIT: And in the post after that!
quote: I totally agree...I've had several people ask me recently, "Now tell me why earthquakes have anything to do with the bible?"
What a great opportunity to share the gospel and the news of revelation and current issues. Watchman just emailed me that there have been 2 more and it looks like it is walking right up the Jave Trench...now I don't want to go to bed.
Lord, Lord, this is incredible. Praying for the millions of people who are affected. Jesus, please let them see your glory and know you as we do.
Jesus Christ! They are using this effing disaster as a preaching opportunity! Their own alleged "god" just KILLED thousands of people (if you assume he exists), and they calling it a "great opportunity"?!
What in hell could he possibly mean by: "let them see your glory and know you as we do?" Surely he can't mean a "loving god" since "he" just killed off thousands of the family and friends of the people over there?! Maybe he wants them all to be afraid of god?? Maybe he honestly thinks that "hey, god gave you people a tremendous sign that killed thousands of your people just to let you know that he exists! See, he really does love you!" [Edited to patch up quoting - Dave W.] |

I've read several articles on it. 8.9 is one hell of a shaking, especally to those of us who have never experienced a quake to amount ot anything. I've experienced one very mild one and cannot fathom the horror that hit those unfortunate countries.

Interesting certainly, but as an excuse for Bible-thumping, it's not much better than any disaster other than scale. quote: [quote=RR idiot]For those who want to learn more when they have the time (approximately 9 page .pdf file - just ignore the parts referring to 'millions of years ago'):
Is there no sand pit too deep that these nitwits can't bury their heads clear to the bottom of it? Those people need food, medicine and some sort of basic shelter. They should work toward that end, not spend their time boring their neighbors with blather.

Another article on it, one that I'd read yesterday:
quote: "All the planet is vibrating" from the quake, said Enzo Boschi, the head of Italy's National Geophysics Institute. Speaking on SKY TG24 TV, Boschi said the quake even disturbed the Earth's rotation.
Can anyone elaborate on this quote?

Im sure it threw off the rotation by a miniscule fraction of a second or something, nothing unusual.
I would like to state that when I made my predictions for 05', my vision was slightly blurry and apparently the quake was to come 'just before' 05 and 7.0-8.0 was supposed to read 7.0-8.9, typo ya know. |

Ok, what happened is this, Large slab of earth plate moves 100 feet to the west in a short period, not only does it change the center of gravity for the planet but it also has another effect as the massive weight shifts, the speed or rotation can be affected slightly. Like spining around with weights in your hand, if you move the weights the speed will be changed. |

CNN is reporting that the quake was actually a 9.1, or 58% stronger than an 8.9 earthquake. In terms of energy released, a 9.1 quake is the equivalent of approximately 45,115 megatons of TNT, dwarving our largest nukes by a factor of over 1,000. |

Yeah when I was in Anchorage last I went to some lookout point type thing which was like a 100 foot dropoff, it was a flatland neighborhood before the 64 quake. Pretty awesome, in the traditional sense. |

My brother-in-law tells he experienced a 5.0 earthquake during his stay at Chile, where he was living. He said he cried of fear on his apartment, the poor thing. He was certain he was gonna die a horrible death... but he survived unscathed.
Now, imagine a 9.1. Quite a kick, heh? |

I'd just like to thank God for at least waiting until the day after Christmas to kill all those people. In 1964 God just couldn't wait and did them all in on Good Friday. It really makes you think.

10 would not be global destruction, It would probably be felt worldwide though. |

CNN has downgraded it to a 9.0, now. A 12 would pretty much split the globe, as it would be equivalent to 160 trillion tons of TNT set off in a very short period of time. Compare this 160 million megatons to a generously-estimated 42,145 total nuclear warheads worldwide which, if they all had the yeild of the largest Russian warhead ever tested (hardly likely), would total a miniscule 2.1 million megatons.
But, as this page notes, the planet receives the energy equivalent of a 160-teraton explosion each and every day from the Sun. Obviously, how and where that energy is distributed makes a difference in its effects. |

How bloody arrogant. First to asume this is a miracle, and second to think that they want to prase God after a disaster like that. |
