The wingnuts -- Rightwing News{Bashing the French before French-bashing was cool.) -- have decided to take a poke at their less fortunate, lefty brethern by putting up The 40 Most Obnoxious Quotes of 2004. They contain such gems as these:
quote:
29) "The (Bush) administration works closely with a network of rapid response digital brownshirts who work to pressure reporters and their editors for 'undermining support for our troops.'" -- Al Gore

28) "People don't realize that by voting Republican, they voted against themselves....I worry that some people are entertained by the idea of this war. They don't know anything about the Iraqis, but they're angry and frustrated in their own lives. It's like Germany, before Hitler took over. The economy was bad and people felt kicked around. They looked for a scapegoat. Now we've got a new bunch of Hitlers." -- Singer Linda Ronstadt

27) "I don't fall down. That son of a b*tch knocked me over." -- John Kerry on a Secret Service who got in his way while he was snowboarding

26) "Americans did not vote for fascism - but the fascists now control all three branches of our government: the Presidency, Congress, and the Supreme Court. In 1935, Sinclair Lewis warned against the rise of an American fascism in 'It Can't Happen Here'. Well, it can - and it will, unless we stop it now." -- Bob Fertik at Democrats.com

25) "But the vitriol also reflects the fact that many of the people at (the Republican National Convention), for all their flag-waving, hate America. They want a controlled, monolithic society; they fear and loathe our nation's freedom, diversity and complexity." -- Paul Krugman

And my personal favorites:
quote:
38) "Go, balloons. Go, balloons. Go, balloons … What's happening balloons? There's not enough coming down. All balloons! Why the hell is nothing falling? What the f*ck are you guys doing up there?" —- Democratic Convention producer Don Mischer on CNN as balloons failed to drop from the ceiling of the Fleet Center in Boston

37) "The Dixiecrats meet again in New York. Now they're called Republicans." -- Andrew Sullivan

All well and good. Not much out of context as far as I can see. But unlike Congessional Democrats, the Rooftop Report ain't havin' that shit, and quickly came up with 40 of their own:

The 40 Most Obnoxious Quotes Of 2004
In response to Right Wing News' slanted Most Obnoxious Quotes of 2004 list, I present the below. Be warned quotes were put together in minutes, with no suggestions, as opposed to weeks with 260 suggestions, so bear with it a bit. I am sure many were missed. Feel free to add your own list via trackback or comments.

In no particular order:

1. "The NEA is a terrorist organization" - Rod Paige Education Secretary

2. "I would argue that the future of our country hangs in the balance because the future of marriage hangs in the balance. Isn't that the ultimate homeland security, standing up and defending marriage?" - PA Sentator Rick Santorum

3. "To The People Of Islam: Just think: If we'd invaded your countries, killed your leaders and converted you to Christianity YOU'D ALL BE OPENING CHRISTMAS PRESENTS RIGHT ABOUT NOW! Merry Christmas" - Ann Coulter

4. "Gosh, I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those exaggerations." - President Bush

5. "It does not affect your daily life very much if your neighbor marries a box turtle. But that does not mean it is right... Now you must raise your children up in a world where that union of man and box turtle is on the same legal footing as man and wife." - Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)

The gauntlet has been cast and picked up. Are we soon to be treated with dueling quotes? Thus far, I have Rooftop ahead by 21 proposterous points, and I'm giving them 9s across the board for style.

"What luck for rulers that men do not think." -- Adolf Hitler (1889 - 1945)

"If only we could impeach on the basis of criminal stupidity, 90% of the Rethuglicans and half of the Democrats would be thrown out of office." ~~ P.Z. Myres

"The default position of human nature is to punch the other guy in the face and take his stuff." ~~ Dude

Brother Boot Knife of Warm Humanitarianism,

and Crypto-Communist!
