I don't like to see comments like admonitions to read basic math texts or similar condescending instructions. It's one thing to say, "I've tried to explain, you don't seem to get it", and another to say, "Here's a science 101 text, go read it". It may seem like a subtle difference but it reads differently when it's directed at you.
It also reads differently if the person in question has directly asked about where to go to learn the science.
Well of course.
The comment I read was posted someone who was frustrated another had not gotten a particular concept. The reason I noticed it is that's what a certain 'jerk' on another board said to me. And in that situation it was a ridiculous comment. Something like, "read biology 101", when I have a master's in nursing which most certainly includes biology. |

Yeah. It's also annoying when someone (in an attempt to get the burden off their hands) says something like, "I've done my homework, go do yours" and nothing else. |

Absolutely. I think some extra consideration should be given to those new to SFN, just as one would be more polite to a guest than a friend or family member. However, there are limits to my patience, and when someone keeps singing the same old unsupported song over and over it begins to wear on my nerves - and my manners.
