Because the Idiots are at it again. quote: January 27, 2005 Pressure Mounts to Remove Gay President from Rushmore If a coalition of conservative groups gets its way, the craggy visage of the country's first gay president, Abraham Lincoln, will soon be chiseled out of Mount Rushmore. Activists say that with selective blasting techniques and a bit of re-sculpting, Old Abe can be transformed into an icon conservatives are more comfortable with: Ronald Reagan.
Face lift to be first Rushmore renovations since 1939
By Deanna Swift
KEYSTONE, SD—Behind closed doors, a coalition of conservative and pro-family organizations has been waging a pressure campaign to remove America's first gay president from the national memorial site known as Mount Rushmore. If the groups get their way, the craggy visage of Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States, will be blasted off of the Black Hills commemorative site and replaced with an icon that conservatives say better represents their values: Ronald Reagan.
Replace Lincoln with Reagan? I can't decide if this is funny or merely silly. Swaping the gay guy, who reunited the country, for a bumbling fool who presided over an administration that collected some 30 felony convictions and ran up a staggering deficit second only to the bumbling fool current, is a good thing?
Perhaps it's just as well that we don't have the folder. It would be so full of neo-con trash that it would become tedious.

You missed my favorite (?) part of this.
quote: But if recent history is any indication, it shouldn't be too long before fans of the "Gipper" have something to smile about. In recent months, the Park Service has introduced a creationist account of the origins of the Grand Canyon into the destination's book store, after a Christian employee joined forces with traditionalist groups to demand that the park stop privileging science over other accounts of history.
Park Service officials also agreed to modify a video shown to tourists at the Lincoln Memorial, after conservative Christians complained that it gave too much screen time to women, blacks and gays.
You also should check out the bio of the authors of the website. It's worth noting.
Among the highlights: --lead choreographer with the Billy Graham "Crusader" Tour --all but blacklisted during the Clinton years --degree in journalism from California Baptist University --author of the forthcoming self-help guide entitled "Stumbling Down the Yellow Brick Road: An Ecumenical Ex-Gay Travel Journal"

Filthy, I think this is a satirical website, ala Jonathan Swift.
Passion of the Christ 2? Christian-Themed Pornographic Film Up for Industry Award

Maybe, but for the last couple of years, YEC crap authored by a fundie tour guide, has indeed been on sale at the Grand Canyon, and there has long been a minor movement in favor of further defacing Rushmore with Reagan's head.
Knowing how the Reagan worshipers operate, would it suprise anyone? Until evidence to the contrary shows up, I must consider it for real, although at this point, I don't think it will happen.

But I wonder; might they actually try to do it?
Thanks.

I don't know about replacing Lincoln with Reagan but I remember a few years ago there was a move by some Republicans to replace Theodore Roosevelt with Ronald Reagan. Of course this was before the whole Lincoln may have been gay thing. I could understand their reasoning because although Roosevelt was a Republican his policies and actions as President have little resemblance to the current Republican platform that we've all come to know and despise. Many of Roosevelt's views seem to be directly opposite to those of today's Republicans. Bust up monopolies, how un-American could he be. Set aside land and leave it unspoiled by man, that's downright sacrilegious. Force Columbia to give up Panama so the U.S. could build the canal, well he was a Republican. I'm not saying Theodore Roosevelt was a great president, I don't really know that much about him. Even in light of his shortcomings I still think he has the current crop of Republicans beat by a country mile and shouldn't be replaced by Reagan.
