There's a big one a'comin' at ya!
quote:
A giant asteroid the size of three football pitches will make the closest flyby of Earth in recorded history for an object of its size, scientists said yesterday.

It will pass between the Earth and the Moon and will even come closer than the orbit of many telecommunications satellites, although astronomers insisted that there was little chance of a collision with the massive rock.

I'd like to see that.

Well you can do just that by visiting the UK or nearby there on the 13th of April 2029, it should be visible to the eye provided conditions are right.

In 2029, I would be 94 years old and doubtless demented enough not to give a rats ass about any rock not thrown at me by neighborhood brats. Assuming I make it that long, which, if my history is anything to go by, is unlikely.

Would still like to re-visit the bawds at Picadilly Circus UK, though.

Nah by that time we'll have Neo-Wahabinauts or joke spawned Super Christian Landoverists trying to redirect the asteroid to hit the earth to bring about the "promised" land.

Oh and Im sure they will have a GrandpaNet for safe viewing from MOONursing Facility #9. (Gotta have some place to store the 3-4 billion 65+ers)

I'm confident that the "near miss" is just some government cover-up of the impending Armageddon.
(Which will be almost as unpleasant as watching the movie with the same name.)

If you argue otherwise, you are probably in on it!

What do you mean probably?

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.
