As if we needed this, there is a new worm dubbed w32.nimda.amm that is infecting systems worldwide and causing internet slowdowns. Reportedly it gets into networks through an email with an attachment called readme.exe
Apparantly, it can be executed automatically with comuter internet security on the medium setting.
This worm is not just effecting SFN. I have noticed worldwide slowdowns and from what I have seen in the past it could take days to fix this one. I urge everyone to patch their systems immediately and always, and I mean always keep up on security patches.

Do not screw around and forget about updating your virus definitions or, worse yet, decide to forego having any virus scanner. This virus will infect you if you merely visit the web page of a server infected with this. I have tested it myself and it's not pretty.
Drop everything and get protected now!!

Not if you visit it with netscape.
Radioactive GM Crops.
Slightly above background.
Safe to eat.
But no activist would dare rip it out.
As they think it gives them cancer. |

Well, to be honest it also depends on the settings in IE. But who uses netscape these days anyway

Those intelligent enough not to want to get prompted whether they want to run scripts but don't want ActiveX.
Anyway, IE has some annoying tendencies like taking the whole computer down when it crashes (at least with Netscape you can still use the computer and get back in).

That's one way of lookinga at it. But with netscape you get that annoying interface, no integration with the operating system(and it's a reallllly good thing to have) and it's slower, poor color palette and poorly handles frames, CSS and well shucks....everything

Those intelligent enough know how to configure their security settings, because they know IE is far superior.

Not if you use a real OS, like Win2000 or WinXP (I run XP Pro Corporate, best OS I've ever used, and no WPA either!)
Besides, you can reboot a Win9x machine and restart IE and get back to browsing before Netscape even starts up the first time! (<- playful exaggeration, with a hint of truth )

IMNSHO, Netscape started out as a good thing but started going downhill really quickly when management got involved in R&D. It is now as bloated as any white trash hoe.
However, if you have a bug in your JS you just can't find, Netscape is handy to have.

Them's fighting words! You haven't used Win2k until you've used it on my P233 Thinkpad.
Speaking of IE taking down a machine, I once removed web spyware from a WinME machine, uninstalled it, removed leftover registry entries, etc, which I have done on numerous machines before for this very same spyware but NOT that OS (I am a qualified professional, kiddies!). Explorer immediately started giving fatal errors. You could click ok, sit back, wait 10 seconds, get another one, wait, get another one, etc etc. This is without trying to open anything. Never even mind thinking about fixing it. Restore disks are the bane of my existance.. but.. I.. I had to.
Not sure if the spyware actually interfaced with the GUI as opposed to the browser, but.. I have to say I am against any system being that dependant on the browser.
Also, haven't had a problem like that with Win2k. Have had a few different ones though..
