Ok.
I allow a cookie to store my login info to this forum.
Every now and then I become un-logged in. I'm reasonably sure it is not my cookie that is responsible, as I let them keep me logged in to another forum, and have never been logged out of it.
Now, this isn't really any big deal for the large part.
Except...
You do not have to be logged in to read the forums here. Also, apparently, you do not have to be logged in to have the "reply" text window open up for you when you click "reply to post".
Now, you go and type in a response to a post. Sometimes it takes up a good 10-20 minutes to put down a thoughfull reply.
Then, you click "post". You get routed to the screen that says "you aren't logged in! You click the back arrow... you end up lookin at an empty text window where your reply was just a few seconds ago.... so much for THAT 15 minutes of your life.

Yeah, that happens to me now & then. There are a set of boxes above the text box for your name and password, and if you fill them in, your post will be successful. Having had to rewrite more times than I'd care to mention, I have formed the habit of glancing up for those boxes. If you are logged in, they will not appear.

Well, if you are not logged in, and you click reply, it should direct you to the login screen... not open up the reply window and let you waste your time.

This happens to me as well. I think it has something to do with the cookie expiring. It seems to happen every three months or so. Since it's only an issue once per quarter, it isn't a big deal. I do notice the number of unread messages becomes huge when I access the site during this time and it tells me that I need to check the top of the page to see if I'm logged in. I've only lost one post because of it. |

It's happened to me, too. I don't usually stay logged in, but I still occasionally forget to login before I post. Since the reply field is accessible whether one is logged in or not, I have lost a post or two.
Now I check before I write, after I write, and if the post is more than a couple of sentences long I check while I'm writing.
