Perhaps this is old news but both Everything Science and the Bad Astronomy forums have been attacked by a troll that has links that go to porn sites but worse will trap passwords. He then goes on to hack into emails, wreck forums and all sorts of other nasty things.
Here's an informative thread on Everything Science about him.
quote: I've been doing some research on a former troll that goes by the name of ProjectOrion on many different bulletin boards. From what I've gathered from other websites, I've been put under the impression that PO, or someone else for that matter had hacked a previous inception of this bulletin board that went simply by the name of "Everything Space." I'm asking this question now, because I'm a member of another board that some here may be familiar with called the Bad Astromony Bulletin Board. ProjectOrion was a member of this board as well. It wasn't until a few days ago, where he, and at least one of his sockpuppets had been banned. Shortly afterwords, we now appear to be having problems with the Bad Astronomy Bulletin Board, as no one is able to get onto the site. The following is a link to another bulletin board that many members of the BABB post to, and is where I did a quick little writeup on some of the activities of ProjectOrion. I'm hoping that I'm just being paranoid here.
It's worth reading the rest of the thread if you aren't aware of this guy.

I could access it some 6 or 7 hours ago, so the link itself was correct. Maybe a routing-glitch? |

The link worked for me just now. Here's another quote from the thread posted by Everything Science member and administrator, Orstio:
quote: He loves to take on multiple identities. He will also use internet cafes, libraries, and multiple ISPs to regain access to the forum. I have a full list of IPs that have kept Wayne out for several months, if Phil would like them.
That said, I have recently noticed an increase in the number of banned hits from his neck of the woods. I was wondering if something was going on, and you have confirmed my suspicion.
Edited to add: The link took me to page two of the discussion. Here's a link to the beginning on page one. |

How so, trap passwords? I think I might've clicked one of his links, accidentaly, and it froze. I shut the whole thing down and restored Windows to a couple days before, because I'm that paranoid... |

Turns out it was my Internet connection from work which was foiling me. It also prevents me from seeing Wendy's avatar. |

I have no idea, nor do I know if firewalls help. And I wasn't quite clear what problems Phil or Orstio had with the guy using similar domain names. But I'm sure if you ask on Everything Science they can help. They seemed to have had the most experience with the guy. |
