I went back and read "The Incredible Shrinking Surplus" that @tomic started on August 24th. To those who participated, re-read your posts and ask yourself the following question...
"Now what?"

To paraphrase George Bush...
"Get back on that airplane DAMMIT!

Considering that we are now spending like there's no tomorrow(don't even think it ) maybe now is the time to nudge taxes up a bit. Considering all that's happened even the Republicans could probably do it without upsetting their constituency too much.
I am, however, extremely pissed off at the airline bailout. That was corporate welfare of the worst kind. The government took money from all hard working Americans and gave it to the airline stockholders. Owning stocks is a risky business. That's part of the deal and airlines have always been a somewhat risky business. Giving them cash like that is utterly anti-capitalistic and just wrong. Isn't it just a little bit amazing how fast Congress and the prsident acted for the airlines when help for normal people is debated so hotly and often gets nowhere???? I feel that the government has screwed us yet again.

Now wait @tomic - they're talking about increasing tax refunds (yes the ones we received earlier this year) and taking additional tax cuts.
OK, now spend more bring in less - why can't I live like that?
Now, I understand trickle down economics. It can work in a stable economy. But I don't think more tax relief right now would cause people to spend more money - allowing others to earn more money to spend.
He's YOUR god, they're YOUR rules, YOU burn in hell!

Well, @tomic. I hope you have a healthy bladder, 'cause now the tourist industry is hinting at a bailout. How sad that those employed in "economically sensitive" industries EXPECT a Federal crutch. If I see Mickey Mouse on the steps of Capitol Hill, I'll shit my pants.

How come industry expects a bailout when I am guessing when things get tough for the rest of us we will hear "don't be so lazy and expect welfare" from the government. I don't see why normal, hard working Americans are expected to face tough times but these businesses get to leech off of us without any questions. It's sickening.
I am still very angry, perhaps even more angry than before, about the budget. There should always be money left over for emergencies. It's a good policy for normal folks. It's a good policy for the government.

After seeing a projection for this year's deficit I couldn't help but recall these old topics and wanted to bump them up. Just think how far we've come in only a year and a half under the Bush regime. I swear I think the buzzards are circling closer...
