Just thought you might want to see this inadvertantly hilarious site. They have a HUGE database of movies.
My friend linked me here, and I have been having a blast surfing this site for the past hour. What is really amazing is that all my favorite movies scored under a 50% on their scale... I must have good taste in movies!
Anyone else enjoy it?

Hey, Shacal. It's always good to see that you're not in agreement with the fundie-right.
BTW, I think this was brought up many months ago in this thread. There were some interesting contests that came from this-- mostly trying to find highest/lowest ratings and such.
I checked their review for Return of the King, and see that it does OK (for them)-- a 56 out of 100. Curiously, the reviewer calls the film "a magnificent work of art," but then feels compelled to defend this (because the rabid fundies will get mad that a film in which there are "issues of occult - witchcraft, sorcery, wizardry" is being praised as art?) by sayingquote: Because of the skill and talents that went into a beautifully choreographed and orchestrated symphony of visual and audio excellence in a story of contrapositioned good and evil. Then how can I find issue with it if it is so magnificent? Because, in nutshell, art does not equal sin and sin does not equal art. Art becomes sin when art uses sin. (emph. in original)
I'm sure this guy will be really happy in the soon-to-come Christian Theorcracy.
And then there's this:quote: My biggest issue with the LotR movies is their defiance of Isa. 5:20.
I'm speechless. He knows that it's a movie, right? They didn't really use magic! |

I've linked to Cap Alerts a couple of times before, but haven't been there recently. This "Playing Now" page is new to me. These fundies are always funny to read.
I'd have missed out both "Dogma" and "Scary Movie" if it hadn't been for CAP Alert. |

No, I'm glad you brought it up again. I haven't been back there in ages. Sin City received a perfect zero! I would expect nothing less. The movie is brilliant.
Their rating system works flawlessly if you simply reverse their scoring system.

No, it's OK-- I wasn't admonishing. It's good to revive topics that may have faded from the active discussion scene. Especially with new members who may not have been year. I only linked to show you (and other new members/lurkers) what else had been discussed... |

Oh my, thanks for resurrecting this! I'm reading the scores on Constantine, and I'm quite curious: what is "the most foul of the foul words"? |

In their review of The Amityville Horror, the author writes: "The Offense to God (O) investigation area found tons of material offensive to His holy Word and Will, material of the most unholy nature such as the dead communicating with the living and evil having the power to control the living and life. I can hear it now: "Duh! It's a horror flick!" That my good friends does not excuse desensitizing the people with such."
You see? We can't watch movies about the evil dead communicating with and controlling the living or it will desensitize us to...um, what again exactly?

And how the hell are you supposed to do a horror flick without, well, evil? |

On the contrary!
Thanks to you, I've been shown a new page at the site I didn't know about. Since it is a page for "new" items, I'll probably bookmark it.

I'm familiar with the site. It refers to the four letter word for sexual intercourse. He gets a little funny (unintentionally) when he pontificates about "offensive to God" but he defends his assertations well with passage cites. |
