Dr. Lao couldn't have done it better.

Well, all of the fuss over the Minutemen, those brave, latter-day citizen-protectors of our sacred borders, has reached it's predictably less than spectacular finish. It has accomplished nothing beyond giving a couple hundred people some needed fresh air and our national media another excuse to spout orgasmic bullshit. No captured, illegal aliens, nor even any observed that I've heard of, but at least no one got shot, neither alien nor Minuteman (more likely). That's a plus I guess, although perhaps a dissapointment to various editors and publishers.

Oh, and lest I forget, the tutonic twit governing CA got the opportunity to be foolish (again) to the cameras.

Not even a whimper, much less a bang.

Minutemen served up a spectacle and the media swallowed it whole

WHAT if the media staged a stunt — or helped stage a stunt — and nobody came?

Would the media still cover it? Would California's governor get suckered in?

In the case of the recently concluded Minuteman Project, which vowed to blockade the southern Arizona border with more than 1,000 volunteers during the entire month of April, the answer, unfortunately, was a resounding yes.

So, there we have it. Again. The Forth Estate, with all manner of critical topics to cover goes for the cheap stunt; the stains on a wall, the bugging-out bride, the Minutemen silliness. Stories that no one beyond the those few actually involved really care about. A mere quarter century ago, this crap wouldn't be any more than filler on a back page.

What has become of journalistic integrity? Have the neo-cons shitcanned that, too?

It was trampled by ratings, money, corporate control of the media, and the pundit phenomenon.

It isn't quite dead yet, but it doesn't look good.
