It's rather like a puddle waking up one morning— I know they don't normally do this, but allow me, I'm a science fiction writer— A puddle wakes up one morning and thinks: "This is a very interesting world I find myself in. It fits me very neatly. In fact it fits me so neatly... I mean really precise isn't it?... It must have been made to have me in it." And the sun rises, and it's continuing to narrate this story about how this hole must have been made to have him in it. And as the sun rises, and gradually the puddle is shrinking and shrinking and shrinking— and by the time the puddle ceases to exist, it's still thinking— it's still trapped in this idea that— that the hole was there for it. And if we think that the world is here for us we will continue to destroy it in the way that we have been destroying it, because we think that we can do no harm. -- Dougalas Adams

Found that at the Thumb. I've always thought that Adams was one of our wiser philosophers.

You're exactly right, Double H. That's what will happen. But perhaps they are gradually coming to their senses and will cancle the showing. There's still time.

But if not, we'll just have to suck it up and refute it as best we can. At least the co-sponsership idiotcy is off the books. That would have given the film a thin patina of legitimacy that would be hard to argue against. As it is now, this excellent point can be brought up and belabored ad nauseum.

I am now very curious. I want to see this epic for myself so's I'll know precisly what I'm defending and what I'm attacking.

Don't Panic!! -- Dougalas Adams

That is good. Perhaps in the long run, this film might cause more damage to the DI's image than if it is not shown.

But the story is far from over.

Here's a link to the story. Man, I hate that this is happening in my country.

P.S. So you're a Technical Director for North-East Regional e-Science Centre? And married, too. Pretty accomplished for a 12-year-old. (I think you might have put in your birthday wrong on your info page.) And if I haven't welcomed you yet, welcome, latsot.

Well, we englishmen grow up pretty fast....

Although apparently we aren't very good at filling in forms :-)

Thanks for the welcome and the correction.

Actually, if you leave your birthday blank when registering, it defaults to 12. If you look at the birthdays list on the forum page, you'll typically see lots of people turning 13. It's a software thing, and no fault of latsot's.

Having given back the $16K, the SI should go ahead with the event, and when all the special invitees are seated and ready for their moment of inglorious triumph, up on the screen comes Reefer Madness. A film based just as much on solid science as whatever they were planning on showing. Probably more entertaining too.

I was speaking of a scientific critique of the Privliged Planet film. None has been done as yet, but I'm sure some will. To present the flaws and lack of evidence in the film would certainly have an influence on the court.

Or maybe not, if Bush manages to install the judges he wants.

Poor wording on my part, I think. I should have been clearer.

The case, and asinine it is, is a lawsuit in Dover PA. regarding the teaching of the controversy in science over the Theory of Evolution. I think that it will fail.

Of course, the recent nonsense in KS wasn't a legal case, although much of the media put forth the impression that it was.
