A priest kills a nun in the name of exorcism and claims not to understand what all the fuss is about.

Yes, I read that and mentioned it in this thread as an example of the mind-set shown by the subjects of it.

Actually, this insanity happens all the time, albeit this is the first time I've heard of the 'possesed' being crucified. Here is the states, it is usually a child that is fatally exorcised, the church, usually some rabid, protestant sect, abetted by the parents. I read of a couple a year, it seems. I've wondered how many non-fatal instances happen, and how many fatal ones go unreported.

An update.
quote:
The monk said Sunday he was trying to "take the devil out of her," N24 news television reported.

When asked whether the nun was mentally ill and in need of medical help instead of exorcism, he told the television station, "you can't take the devil out of people with pills."

The Romanian Orthodox Church has called the death "abominable" and has suspended Corogeanu pending an investigation. However, he refused to recognize the suspension and carried out a funeral service for the nun on Sunday. Cornici will be buried in a separate service in her home village.

Nuns yelled at a vicar who had come to suspend Corogeanu on Sunday, and scuffles broke out, N24 reported. Riot police intervened and order was restored, the television station reported. There were no injuries.

The guy is stark, raving mad and would fit in nicely with our less-balanced, fundementalist Christians and indeed, the Muslim Taliban.

I can't see any difference in the two, really. Each would happily exterminate the other, given the opportunity, and call it God's work. No matter which triumphed, we'd end up with the same, damned thing.

A thought: evidently this priest had something of a following amongst the nuns, and probably his congregation. One wonders that, if he hadn't gotton entirely stupid, or if the nun had survived (no longer devil-ridden, we assume), would he have eventually started his own bloody, little doomsday cult as so many have?

History, modern and ancient, is filled with similiar.

Who says he wont start one now? He seams to have a very loyal following in those nuns.

Quiet possibly. The priest is young and, if I've read right, faces no more than 20 years if found guilty. He'd probably get out sooner, although I'd imagine that the Church would excommunicate him (or maybe not ).

Plenty of time left to round up a following of like-minded lunatics.

There are quite a few people I'd like to 'exorcise'...
