Hello,
I guess I'll post here as I can't seem to find any intro thread. I am AKM and I suppose you can call me a newbie to skeptic boards. I consider myself a skeptic, as I like to see the evidence up front. I am not "degreed" as in a university education, although I think there is more than one way to "educate" yourself. I was a member of another skeptic board but found it to be very cliquish and to varying degrees immature, but that's just my opinion. Let's just say that board didn't work out for me. I have lurked here for awhile and I like what I see. I hope after time, some of you will feel the same way about me, time will tell I guess.

Yeah. I'm always telling them: "Put a special thread in the forums for people to introduce themselves with"!
But do they ever listen? Noooooo!
Although in all fairness, it'd maybe help if I typed that suggestion into the forum instead of talking to my monitor.
Anyway, glad you're here. |

Yeh, but whaddafork. We all blundered in through the same door. Maybe if we cleaned the beer barf off the door mat....
You talk to yer monitor, hah? In some circles that sort of thing might be considered demon possesion. Very dangerous, and tempting to the Powers of Darkness. I and my rattlesnake agree that you should stop it at once!

Check out this thread: So, what's your user name? You won't get all your answers there, but at least a little something. |

We're not the least bit cliquish. And I am sure everyone here would agree with me, or ells…
Honestly though, we strive to be a populist site. Anyone with the desire to be one, and with the proper tools (critical thinking) can be a skeptic and a valued member of the skeptical community.
Welcome to SFN.

Actually, the_ignored, that is a question that Dave_W is more suited to answer, since he is the moderator of the General Discussion section.
I can imagine he is hesitating... It's easy to make a thread a sticky, and if you're not careful the section will end up cluttered with a lot of them. However, in this case, I too agree that a sticky might be nice. I'll PM him and see what happens. |

Well, I have to say Thank You to all for a warm welcome. As much as I want to contribute what I can, I also want to learn as much as I can. I think this is just the place for that. So please be patient as I stumble around for a bit asking questions.

Just being curious, what board was that?
Suffice to say that it's a well-known board. I really don't want it to seem like I'm flinging mud at another board, although my stated impressions in the previous post may seem like it, that was not my intention. I was just giving my reasons for departure, to sum that up, I just felt like I didn't fit in.

Here's hoping that you find a comfortable niche here. We welcome all. And like the board you left, some fail to find that niche and others leave because they find that we actually enjoy those who would disrupt our little corner of the web, or at least I do. . Only one person was ever banned from here, and he was a true and total ass.
So again, welcome. We'll swap some info and have some fun.
