In Mexico, murals are everywhere, they are considered a high form of art, and are often (due to influence of cultures like Aztecs and a history involving many bloody revolutions) gorey, monstrous, violent and highly symbolic. In short, people in Mexico are used to giant, weird-ass, ugly and politically controversial paintings in public spaces.
But Americans are not used to such stuff, and a series of murals in the Denver International Airport has reinforced crackpot theories of a secret military base linked to the alien conspiracy.
The Denver International Airport was over-funded, and officials commissioned local Hispanic muralist Leo Tanguma to do a series of murals. (A big oopsie on their part.) These murals are bizarre and disturbing to say the least. Some caused such an uproar with disgruntled citizens that they were painted over.
