Access denied to "www.landoverbaptist.org" according to: - <my company> Code of Business and Ethics and Conduct and - Monitoring the usage of systems and services

I wonder how the content filter determins that this site should be blocked. |

polar bears ... Antarctic ?
quote: ... the Center for Creation Research was able to secure several fossilized remains of flying dinosaurs valued at over $14 million. The remains will be studied exhaustively for evidence of the leather harnessing used to secure Noah's sons for their long transcontinental journeys.
LOL I suppose that the original authors didn't think that men riding flying dinosaurs was very important to the story. Fabulous, don't you think... |

Censorware usually works by a combination of a site blacklist supplied by the censorware maker and keyword detection. If you find out just what package your company is using, you might be able to find out more about it at http://www.peacefire.org , which you'll probably have to access from home, since it's pretty universally blacklisted by censorware makers.
If it turns out to be a USA-made package, there's probably a right-wing politico-religious agenda involved. |

Chippewa, you're right, that Onion article is nearly indistinguishable from the nonsense it parodies. This bit sounds like something a fundy would actually say:quote: "Anti-falling physicists have been theorizing for decades about the 'electromagnetic force,' the 'weak nuclear force,' the 'strong nuclear force,' and so-called 'force of gravity,'" Burdett said. "And they tilt their findings toward trying to unite them into one force. But readers of the Bible have already known for millennia what this one, unified force is: His name is Jesus."

This is the paradox with parodies.
If misunderstood, they can be taken by the intended target as support for their position and turned back against it's creator with confusing results.
The moon landing hoax is a classic example of this.
It is a major problem with situationalism. |

And the Landover Baptist site is spectacular in this way, getting hate mail from all over the religious spectrum.
The guy who started it even once did his schtick live at an atheist rally in Washington, DC, and screamed over the loudspeakers that the Christian counter-protesters across the street were wimps and going to Hell because they weren't Christian enough to come beat the devil out of the atheists.
I wish I had been there. |
